R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
1-2 Curtis C. Childers, the current state president of the Texas Future
1-3 Farmers of America (FFA), on his outstanding achievements and his
1-4 longstanding record of service to the organization at the local,
1-5 district, and statewide levels; and
1-6 WHEREAS, A 1992 graduate of Glen Rose High School, where he
1-7 was honored for his superior scholastic performance by being named
1-8 valedictorian of his class, Mr. Childers began his noteworthy
1-9 involvement in FFA activities as a member of the Glen Rose FFA club
1-10 under the capable tutelage of Glen Rose advisor Gary Rosenbusch;
1-11 and
1-12 WHEREAS, He was an exemplary member of the organization
1-13 during his high school years and played an active role in all of
1-14 the local chapter's activities, enthusiastically and energetically
1-15 participating in the group's Adopt-A-Highway, community
1-16 beautification, Food for America, FFA Children's Barnyard, and toys
1-17 for needy children projects; and
1-18 WHEREAS, In addition to taking part in these group projects
1-19 and activities, he also distinguished himself through his
1-20 individual accomplishments and contributions to the organization; a
1-21 Glen Rose FFA reporter during his sophomore year, he gained
1-22 widespread recognition among his peers during his junior year when
1-23 he served as chapter vice-president and as president of the Lake
1-24 Whitney FFA District; and
2-1 WHEREAS, During his senior year, he not only was elected to
2-2 serve as chapter president but gained the distinct honor of being
2-3 named Area VIII president as well; in these important posts,
2-4 Mr. Childers had the opportunity to use the dynamic leadership
2-5 skills he had developed and demonstrated in several FFA leadership
2-6 contests; and
2-7 WHEREAS, A poised and confident speaker, he garnered numerous
2-8 awards for his ability in state and national competitions, winning
2-9 first place honors in the state in farm radio broadcasting and
2-10 first place prize in the nation in extemporaneous speaking; he also
2-11 took top individual honors in the state in land judging competition
2-12 and led his judging team to a top 10 finish; and
2-13 WHEREAS, Elected to the top state post as president of the
2-14 Texas FFA, Mr. Childers continues to demonstrate his outstanding,
2-15 selfless dedication to the organization and to the principles it
2-16 espouses; although he plans to attend Texas A&M University, where
2-17 he will major in agricultural development, he has postponed his
2-18 college education until the end of his term as president to devote
2-19 all of his time and energy to the fulfillment of his many duties;
2-20 and
2-21 WHEREAS, During his busy term in office, he will travel to
2-22 approximately 500 high schools throughout the state, addressing an
2-23 average of four high schools a day and covering about 60,000 miles
2-24 in all, to promote the FFA organization and to emphasize the
2-25 importance of agricultural education in general; and
2-26 WHEREAS, Able, dedicated, and highly responsible,
2-27 Mr. Childers has been a source of pride for his parents, Gary
3-1 Childers and Linda Vineyard, and all of the Glen Rose community,
3-2 and he is an inspiring example to the more than 54,000 FFA members
3-3 in Texas whom he represents; his recent ascension to the top state
3-4 post is indeed an occasion worthy of special praise and
3-5 recognition; now, therefore, be it
3-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
3-7 Legislature hereby commend Curtis C. Childers on his exceptional
3-8 record of achievement as a member of the Future Farmers of America
3-9 and congratulate him on the honor he has received in being selected
3-10 to serve as state president of the Texas FFA; and, be it further
3-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-12 prepared for Mr. Childers as an expression of high esteem by the
3-13 Texas House of Representatives.
