                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Melanie Marie Belt became the latest member of a
    1-2  select group of young ladies to be presented to society as a
    1-3  Cotillion Idlewild Debutante at the Cotillion Idlewild Club
    1-4  Debutante Presentation on November 27, 1992, thus attaining a great
    1-5  honor reserved for the community's most outstanding and deserving
    1-6  young women; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, The theme of the 1992 ball was "Evening Masquerade,"
    1-8  and those in attendance were treated to a truly magical evening of
    1-9  music and dance; the highlight of the event was the presentation of
   1-10  the five lovely, talented, and ambitious young ladies selected as
   1-11  Cotillion Idlewild Debutantes; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Belt, Jr.,
   1-13  this lovely young lady is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred J.
   1-14  Finch, Jr., and the late James C.  Belt and Florence Belt Brown;
   1-15  and
   1-16        WHEREAS, A sophomore at Xavier University of Louisiana in New
   1-17  Orleans, Miss Belt is studying biology with the goal of eventually
   1-18  becoming an obstetrician with her own practice; her many student
   1-19  activities include membership in the Howard Hughes Biomedical Honor
   1-20  Corps and the Biology Club; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, In recognition of her high academic achievements,
   1-22  she has been named to the Dean's List for both the fall and the
   1-23  spring semesters and was selected to serve as the Howard Hughes
   1-24  Peer Counselor/Tutor for premedical students; she also was honored
    2-1  as an All-American Collegiate Scholar; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Miss Belt established this standard of high academic
    2-3  achievement and peer leadership while she was a student at Kimball
    2-4  High School, where she served as secretary of her senior class,
    2-5  president of the Spanish Club, cocaptain of the Troubadears Drill
    2-6  Team, and president of the National Honor Society; her classmates
    2-7  chose her as their Junior Homecoming Princess, and she graduated
    2-8  salutatorian of the 1991 senior class; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, A devout member of St. Luke's Community United
   2-10  Methodist Church, Miss Belt served on the children's usher board at
   2-11  that church and sang in the Lillie Berry Youth Choir; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, This remarkable young woman has contributed much of
   2-13  her free time to community service projects as a member of
   2-14  Del-Teens and as a volunteer at the Dallas Museum of Art; in 1991,
   2-15  she was crowned Miss MOA Jabberwock in recognition of her
   2-16  outstanding fund-raising efforts on behalf of the Dallas
   2-17  Metropolitan Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; and
   2-18        WHEREAS, Although her studies and volunteer efforts keep her
   2-19  quite busy, this delightful young woman still finds time to relax
   2-20  with her favorite hobbies, which include swimming, traveling, and
   2-21  singing; and
   2-22        WHEREAS, Melanie Marie Belt is a source of great pride and
   2-23  joy to her parents, her community, and her many friends; blessed
   2-24  with a warm personality and natural charm, Miss Belt truly
   2-25  exemplifies the Cotillion Idlewild Debutante spirit, and she is
   2-26  indeed deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-27        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    3-1  Legislature hereby congratulate Melanie Marie Belt on her
    3-2  presentation as a Cotillion Idlewild Debutante and extend to her
    3-3  warmest best wishes for many more years of continued success and
    3-4  happiness; and, be it further
    3-5        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-6  forwarded to Miss Belt as an expression of high regard by the Texas
    3-7  House of Representatives.
