H.R. No. 247 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The many friends and family of Clem James Labus have 1-2 suffered a great loss with the passing of this esteemed gentleman 1-3 on December 8, 1992, at the age of 74; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A respected businessman and distinguished civic 1-5 leader, Mr. Labus was known throughout the Edinburg area as a man 1-6 of tremendous integrity and courage, and he will be deeply missed 1-7 by his many friends and admirers in the community; and 1-8 WHEREAS, This patriotic citizen unhesitatingly answered his 1-9 country's call to arms during World War II, serving with the United 1-10 States Coast Guard, and it was his military service that helped him 1-11 form the personal traits of discipline and honor that he would 1-12 follow throughout his life; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Labus was a successful entrepreneur who built 1-14 and operated two businesses in Edinburg, the Sun Palace and John 1-15 Henry's; he also worked for Koen Construction until his retirement 1-16 in 1983, and he was well known and admired for his industrious work 1-17 ethic; and 1-18 WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Mr. Labus shared many 1-19 years of happiness with his beloved wife, Alice; he took great 1-20 pride and joy in the many accomplishments of his children, Renee, 1-21 Michael, and Patrick, and enjoyed the love of two grandchildren and 1-22 one great-grandchild; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Labus was a devout member of St. Joseph's 1-24 Catholic Church, but he did not limit his faith to the confines of 2-1 the church; he believed that Christian faith should be demonstrated 2-2 through actions, not words, and he lived up to that high standard 2-3 by contributing much of his time, talent, and resources to the 2-4 Knights of Columbus service organization; and 2-5 WHEREAS, In all aspects of his life, Mr. Labus demonstrated a 2-6 rare spirit of strength and compassion that made the world around 2-7 him a better place; a devoted husband, father, and friend, he truly 2-8 exemplified the ideals of Christian charity and faith, and his 2-9 unique spirit will truly live on in the hearts of the many people 2-10 whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-12 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Clem James Labus and 2-13 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, 2-14 Alice Labus of Edinburg; to his daughter, Renee Endres of Maryland; 2-15 to his two sons, Michael Labus of Colorado and Patrick Labus of 2-16 Edinburg; to his three brothers, Emil and Raymond Labus, both of 2-17 Edinburg, and Nick Labus of Corpus Christi; to his three sisters, 2-18 Louise Mayfield of Nevada, Irene Watson of Edinburg, and Evelyn 2-19 Milligan of Pharr; to his two grandchildren; to his 2-20 great-granddaughter; and to all the friends and family of this 2-21 beloved gentleman; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-23 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-24 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-25 Clem James Labus. 2-26 Clem James Labus. 2-27 De La Garza 3-1 H.R.
