R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Virgie Wallis Taylor on
1-2 January 11, 1993, at the age of 101, has brought a great loss to
1-3 the many friends and relatives of this lovely and distinguished
1-4 lady; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Born December 12, 1891, on a Grapevine Prairie farm
1-6 to Major and Carrie Holtzclaw Wallis, she was the only daughter
1-7 among three children in the close-knit Wallis family; and
1-8 WHEREAS, As a young woman, she became the bride of Ocie
1-9 Taylor on October 3, 1909, beginning a happy and rewarding marriage
1-10 that was blessed with three fine sons, Clifford, Morris, and James;
1-11 and
1-12 WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Taylor tirelessly
1-13 labored with her family, farming the fertile soil of Grapevine
1-14 Prairie until the early 1950s; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Spiritual strength and constancy were a hallmark of
1-16 this gracious woman's life; she attributed her remarkable longevity
1-17 to her abiding faith, and she was an active member of the Park
1-18 Baptist Church in Oak Cliff and treasurer for the Bear Creek
1-19 Cemetery Association; and
1-20 WHEREAS, The momentous occasion of her 101st birthday was
1-21 celebrated in a replica of the Wallis Hotel in downtown Grapevine,
1-22 the original structure having been built by Mrs. Taylor's uncle,
1-23 John Wallis, in 1891; and
1-24 WHEREAS, Virgie Wallis Taylor was a woman of rare generosity
2-1 and compassion; although her kind presence and gentle love will be
2-2 missed by all who knew her, her remarkable spirit will live on in
2-3 the hearts of the many people whose lives she touched; now,
2-4 therefore, be it
2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-6 Legislature hereby honor the memory of Virgie Wallis Taylor and
2-7 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her sons
2-8 and daughters-in-law, Morris and Thelma Taylor of Fort Worth and
2-9 James "Zip" and Gayelynn Taylor of Quinlan; to her seven
2-10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four
2-11 great-great-grandchildren; and to the many other friends and
2-12 relatives of this beloved lady; and, be it further
2-13 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
2-14 for the members of her family and that when the Texas House of
2-15 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Virgie
2-16 Wallis Taylor.
