H.R. No. 263 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The many friends and family of H. Edward Alford were 1-2 deeply saddened by the passing of this esteemed gentleman on 1-3 December 19, 1992, at the age of 60; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born September 28, 1932, in Columbus, Ohio, 1-5 Mr. Alford earned a bachelor's degree in geology from Ohio State 1-6 University in 1955; and 1-7 WHEREAS, This patriotic citizen then served his nation as a 1-8 pilot in the United States Air Force and was stationed at James 1-9 Connally Air Force Base in Waco; and 1-10 WHEREAS, After completing his military service, Mr. Alford 1-11 made his home in Waco where he enjoyed a long and distinguished 1-12 career in construction and land development; through hard work and 1-13 determination, he was able to build a successful business of his 1-14 own; and 1-15 WHEREAS, He was honored for his business acumen and hard work 1-16 in 1992 when the Waco Chamber of Commerce recognized his enterprise 1-17 as one of the top seven small businesses in Waco; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Despite his busy schedule, this respected individual 1-19 still found time to dedicate to professional organizations and to 1-20 his community; he generously shared his expertise and leadership 1-21 skills as an active member of the Heart of Texas Builders 1-22 Association and through his service on the McLennan County 1-23 Appraisal Board; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Alford enjoyed the love 2-1 and support of his devoted wife, Nyla Paulson Alford, whom he 2-2 married on May 10, 1959; their marriage was blessed with four 2-3 children, and Mr. Alford took great pride in their many 2-4 accomplishments; and 2-5 WHEREAS, H. Edward Alford will long be remembered by those 2-6 who knew and loved him not only as an enterprising businessman, but 2-7 as a devoted father and a loving husband as well; though his 2-8 presence is gone from us now, his unique spirit will surely live on 2-9 in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched; now, 2-10 therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-12 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of H. Edward Alford and 2-13 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, 2-14 Nyla Paulson Alford of Waco; to his mother, Virginia Alford of 2-15 Tucson, Arizona; to his three sons, Nathan Alford and Bradley 2-16 Alford, both of Waco, and Craig Alford of Bedford; to his two 2-17 brothers, Sam Alford of Tucson, Arizona, and Dr. Nathan Alford of 2-18 Kildeer, Illinois; and to all those who mourn the loss of this fine 2-19 gentleman; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-21 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-22 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-23 H.
