By: Denton H.R. No. 265 73R1696 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The death of James A. Maler, on November 18, 1992, 1-2 at the age of 51, has brought a great loss to the many friends and 1-3 relatives of this distinguished Texas businessman and law 1-4 enforcement officer; and 1-5 WHEREAS, An esteemed resident of Central Texas, Mr. Maler was 1-6 born April 30, 1941, near Abbott, and later established his home in 1-7 the community of West; and 1-8 WHEREAS, As a young man he took as his bride the lovely 1-9 Elizabeth Jean Deiterman, and the happy couple enjoyed a deeply 1-10 fulfilling union lasting 29 years until Mr. Maler's passing and was 1-11 blessed by the birth of three fine sons and two beloved daughters; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, In addition to being a loving spouse and devoted 1-14 parent, he was widely regarded throughout the community as a 1-15 successful businessman and was the owner of Maler's Texaco in West 1-16 for 27 years; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Dedicated to the welfare of his community, Mr. Maler 1-18 also enjoyed a distinguished career in the law enforcement 1-19 profession as a reserve officer with the McLennan County Sheriff's 1-20 Department and the West Police Department and served with 1-21 distinction as constable of Precinct 3 in McLennan County for the 1-22 past eight years; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Widely regarded throughout his profession for his 1-24 skill, hard work, and commitment to public service, he contributed 2-1 valuable insight as a member and director of the Central Texas 2-2 Justice of the Peace and Constable Association and as a member of 2-3 the McLennan County Peace Officers Association and the State 2-4 Association of Peace Officers; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Maler also was a chief with the West Fire 2-6 Department and a charter member of the West Volunteer Ambulance 2-7 Association; and 2-8 WHEREAS, A man of boundless energies, he generously gave of 2-9 his time, talents, and energies as a member and president of the 2-10 Lake Park Association, as a member and director of the West Chamber 2-11 of Commerce, and as an associate director of Westfest, Inc.; and 2-12 WHEREAS, In addition, he found the time to be an active 2-13 member of several worthy community organizations, including the 2-14 West Kiwanis Club, the Bellmead Lions Club, and the SPJST Lodge; 2-15 and 2-16 WHEREAS, Mr. Maler received his spiritual strength as a 2-17 devout member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, 2-18 where he also served his parish as a eucharistic minister; and 2-19 WHEREAS, A man of great vision, he dedicated most of his life 2-20 to serving his community; though his special presence will be 2-21 missed by all who knew him, his spirit will surely live on in the 2-22 hearts and minds of the many people whose lives were touched by 2-23 this exceptional gentleman; now, therefore, be it 2-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-25 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James A. Maler and 2-26 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, 2-27 Elizabeth Jean Maler; to his three sons, Michael Maler, David 3-1 Maler, and Kevin Maler; to his two daughters, Sharon Maler and 3-2 Susan Maler; to his father, Albert R. Maler; to his six brothers, 3-3 Charles Maler, John Earl Maler, Joe Edd Maler, Jimmy Maler, Kenneth 3-4 Maler, and Jerry Maler; to his four sisters, Beulah Zahirniak, 3-5 Linda Whalen, Beverly Keen, and Janet Patterson; and to the other 3-6 members of his family; and, be it further 3-7 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 3-8 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 3-9 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of James 3-10 A. Maler.
