H.R. No. 268 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The death of Doris Louvina Stephen, on June 29, 1-2 1992, at the age of 63, has brought a great loss to the many 1-3 friends and relatives of this fine woman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mrs. Stephen was born August 28, 1928, in Guyana and 1-5 received her training as a registered nurse in England; and 1-6 WHEREAS, She was a longtime resident of Texas, settling with 1-7 her husband in Waco in 1976, where they attended and graduated from 1-8 Paul Quinn College; she later continued her studies at Baylor 1-9 University in the field of gerontology; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Actively committed to improving the quality of life 1-11 of those throughout her community, Mrs. Stephen enjoyed a deeply 1-12 fulfilling career as a registered nurse and capably assisted her 1-13 husband at the Stephen Health Center in Waco; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A woman of boundless energies, Mrs. Stephen received 1-15 her spiritual strength as a devout member of St. Luke A.M.E. 1-16 Church, where she served the church as a member of stewardess board 1-17 number 1 and as a participant in the church choir; she also was a 1-18 member of Miami Roberson Chapel; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mrs. Stephen made significant and lasting 1-20 contributions to the Central Texas religious community by assisting 1-21 her husband in his ministry to several area churches, including 1-22 Holder Chapel at Harrison Switch, Dallas Howard and Adams Chapel in 1-23 Waco, and Bethel A.M.E. in Itasca; and 1-24 WHEREAS, In addition to her outstanding nursing and church 2-1 activities, Mrs. Stephen was fondly regarded throughout the Waco 2-2 community as a devoted wife and family member and as a loyal friend 2-3 and neighbor; and 2-4 WHEREAS, During her lifetime, this exceptional woman touched 2-5 the lives of many people, and though her presence will be deeply 2-6 missed, her memory will endure in the hearts and minds of all those 2-7 who were privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-9 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Doris Louvina Stephen 2-10 and extend sincere sympathy to her husband, the Reverend Rufus 2-11 Stephen, and to the other members of her family; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-13 for the members of her family and that when the Texas House of 2-14 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Doris 2-15 Louvina Stephen. 2-16 Louvina Stephen. 2-17 Denton 2-18 H.R.
