                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Reverend John Wesley Sedberry, the pastor of
    1-2  Saint John Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Texas, died on November 12,
    1-3  1992, at the age of 72; though his death is a painful loss to
    1-4  family and community alike, the life he led set an example of
    1-5  Christian service and concern for his fellowman; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Born on June 26, 1920, in the small town of Gholson,
    1-7  Reverend Sedberry at an early age turned toward matters of the
    1-8  spirit as he began pursuing a life devoted to the honor and glory
    1-9  of God; after furthering his education at Baylor University and
   1-10  spending several years in military service, he began his formal
   1-11  ministry of outreach and testimony; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Reverend Sedberry went on to pastor Saint John
   1-13  Baptist Church for 32 years, providing strength and guidance to his
   1-14  congregation in times of joy and trial; through his faith and
   1-15  compassion, the spiritual needs of the church were always met; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, A member of numerous religious, political, and civic
   1-17  organizations as well, Reverend Sedberry reached far beyond the
   1-18  walls of his church to share with his community; he actively
   1-19  participated in such groups as the Baptist Ministers of Waco and
   1-20  McLennan County, the Hill County Ministers' Union, the Old Land
   1-21  Mark District Association, the Texas Baptist Sunday School and
   1-22  B.T.U. Congress, the National Association for the Advancement of
   1-23  Colored People of Hill County, and M. W. Prince Hall Lodge 97; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Reverend Sedberry will be remembered as a great
    2-1  teacher, servant, husband, father, and friend who boldly met life's
    2-2  challenges in reverence of the Lord; now, therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-4  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Reverend John
    2-5  Wesley Sedberry and extend profound sympathy to the members of his
    2-6  family:  to his wife, Edna R.  Sedberry; to his daughters, Gertha
    2-7  Mae Bonner of Dallas and Minnie Ola Love of Fort Worth; to his four
    2-8  sisters, Lillian Henderson of Sparks, Nevada, Velma Mays of Los
    2-9  Angeles, California, Clarice Smith of Inglewood, California, and
   2-10  Cathryn Johnson of Reno, Nevada; to his six grandchildren; to his
   2-11  three beloved great-grandchildren; and to the many other relatives
   2-12  and friends of this honorable gentleman; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-14  for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of
   2-15  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of the
   2-16  Reverend John Wesley Sedberry.
