No. 270 73R4528 PFG-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 outstanding Dallas-area student Holland Printice Gary on his recent 1-3 achievement of winning the 1993 Davey O'Brien High School 1-4 Scholarship Award; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Gary was selected from 70 applicants and five 1-6 area finalists to receive the $20,000 scholarship that is awarded 1-7 to exceptional students; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A popular senior at Greenhill School, Mr. Gary is a 1-9 versatile, well-rounded 17-year-old who excels in his studies, 1-10 sports, and extracurricular activities; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A member of the National Honor Society, this 1-12 hardworking student has always put academics first, applying 1-13 characteristic persistence, talent, and dedication to his 1-14 schoolwork with commendable success; one of just a handful of 1-15 African-American students at the small private school, he also has 1-16 demonstrated exemplary leadership, sharing a valuable perspective 1-17 on minority issues and history with his peers; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Similarly tenacious and gifted on the playing field, 1-19 Mr. Gary has lettered in varsity football, track, soccer, and 1-20 volleyball; an especially gifted track athlete, he is captain of 1-21 the track team and was the number one-ranked hurdler in his age 1-22 group at the 1991 Junior Olympics; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Despite his many noteworthy accomplishments, he 1-24 remains affable and modest and is well liked by his peers, who 2-1 voted him homecoming king and who repeatedly have elected him as 2-2 their class president; other pursuits of this versatile individual 2-3 outside the classroom include playing the violin and working as the 2-4 technical director for a school production of West Side Story; and 2-5 WHEREAS, With at least one faculty member pledging support 2-6 for a Holland Printice Gary presidency, this exceptional student is 2-7 contemplating studying engineering in college and already has been 2-8 accepted at Princeton University and also is considering Stanford 2-9 University and Brown University; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Crediting his father, Printice Gary, a developer, as 2-11 his principal role model, Mr. Gary also holds in high esteem the 2-12 Reverend Anthony T. Evans, the senior pastor of Oak Cliff Bible 2-13 Fellowship; looked up to by younger brothers Benjamin and Jonathan, 2-14 his achievements have been a source of pride and happiness for his 2-15 mother, Cynthia, his father, and his friends, teachers, and coaches 2-16 at Greenhill School; and 2-17 WHEREAS, An extraordinarily accomplished student, athlete, 2-18 and individual, this remarkable young man is indeed deserving of 2-19 special legislative recognition on his most recent achievement; 2-20 now, therefore, be it 2-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-22 Legislature hereby congratulate Holland Printice Gary on winning 2-23 the 1993 Davey O'Brien High School Scholarship Award and extend to 2-24 him best wishes for his continued success and happiness; and, be it 2-25 further 2-26 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-27 prepared for him as an expression of high regard by the Texas House 3-1 of Representatives.
