No. 275 73R4431 LBD-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On December 6, 1992, Lillian Williams entered into 1-2 eternal rest after a lifetime of devoted service to her community 1-3 and church; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born in Navasota on August 11, 1911, to the Reverend 1-5 E. R. and Luiza McGrew, Mrs. Williams developed deep spiritual 1-6 roots at an early age; this strong faith was to become a guiding 1-7 force in her life that would influence her many future endeavors; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, With an insatiable thirst for knowledge and an 1-10 earnest desire to learn, this inspiring woman worked hard to 1-11 achieve her goals; after attending public school in Navasota, 1-12 Mrs. Williams went on to receive a bachelor of science degree from 1-13 Prairie View A&M University in 1942 and a master's degree in 1-14 education in 1948; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Teaching in Ellis County for more than 30 years and 1-16 at Dunbar High School for 21 years, Mrs. Williams was known 1-17 throughout the state and nation for her dedication to excellence in 1-18 the teaching profession; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams also held many positions of leadership 1-20 in her church and community; she served as superintendent of Sunday 1-21 School at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, was a member of Top Ladies 1-22 of Distinction, the NAACP, and the National Education Association, 1-23 and donated a great deal of her time to the Community Outreach 1-24 Program; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Mrs. Williams gave tirelessly to the betterment of 2-2 her community, and though the satisfaction of her fellowship will 2-3 be greatly missed, the many pleasant memories she leaves behind in 2-4 the hearts of her loved ones will comfort and inspire them as they 2-5 fondly recall her vigorous spirit and zest for life; now, 2-6 therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lillian Williams and 2-9 extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: to her 2-10 husband of 46 years, Milton Williams of Dallas; to her stepson, 2-11 Roosevelt Williams of Compton, California; to her 2-12 stepdaughter-in-law, Althmese Williams; to her grandchildren, Rose 2-13 Mary, Yolanda, JoAnna, and Jonathan; to her cousin, Earlene Cole of 2-14 Englewood, California; to her niece, Karen P. Thomas Hollie; to her 2-15 nephew, Trent E. Thomas; and to the many other friends and loved 2-16 ones of this beautiful woman; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-18 for the members of her family and that when the Texas House of 2-19 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lillian 2-20 Williams.
