R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
1-2 five outstanding Duncanville High School students who have won
1-3 well-deserved places on the 1993 All-State Band; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Students from all across Texas vie for the honor to
1-5 play in the All-State Band in an annual competition sponsored by
1-6 the Texas Music Educators Association; nearly 10,000 members
1-7 strong, the association is composed of band, choir, orchestra, and
1-8 general music teachers who meet each February in San Antonio to
1-9 attend clinics and workshops and to conduct rehearsals for the
1-10 All-State band, choir, and orchestra concerts; and
1-11 WHEREAS, Duncanville High School will be well represented by
1-12 the five accomplished student musicians who have earned a place on
1-13 this year's All-State Band, several enjoying the noteworthy
1-14 distinction of representing Duncanville for a second time; and
1-15 WHEREAS, Junior French horn player Jeff Rogers has been
1-16 selected a second time for the All-State Band; an all-around
1-17 student and musician, he is a member of the Latin Club and the
1-18 German Club as well as of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Euphonium player Lee Rogers, Jeff's younger brother,
1-20 also has been selected for the All-State Band, one of the few
1-21 freshmen statewide to earn the honor; he also is a member of the
1-22 German Club; and
1-23 WHEREAS, The sons of Jack and Dianne Rogers, Jeff and Lee won
1-24 the coveted First Chair at the regional and area competitions
2-1 leading to their selection to the All-State Band; and
2-2 WHEREAS, Senior tuba player Adam Powell has been selected a
2-3 second time for the All-State Band and is also a drum major and
2-4 member of the Band Council; the son of Gerald and Nancy Powell, he
2-5 has excelled in other endeavors besides music, distinguishing
2-6 himself as a delegate to Boys State, a member of the National Honor
2-7 Society, and a regional finalist in discus; and
2-8 WHEREAS, Junior percussionist and Drum Corps leader for the
2-9 marching band, Greg Merrill is another repeat selection for the
2-10 All-State Band and also earned the coveted First Chair at the
2-11 area-level competition; the son of Brian and Nancy Merrill, he has
2-12 received recognition for his various achievements as a member of
2-13 the National Honor Society, an Eagle Scout, and a computer science
2-14 enthusiast; and
2-15 WHEREAS, Fellow junior percussionist Marty Yudizky joins
2-16 Duncanville High School band members Jeff, Adam, and Greg as a
2-17 two-time selection for the All-State Band and is the uniform
2-18 manager for the school band and a member of the Band Council; the
2-19 son of Mike and Annette Yudizky, he has shown his talent and
2-20 versatility as a member of the National Honor Society and a
2-21 two-year letterman on the swim team; and
2-22 WHEREAS, Music teachers Timothy Stevens, Keith Meek, and Dean
2-23 Clinker are also to be congratulated for their exemplary skill and
2-24 hard work training these successful young musicians; and
2-25 WHEREAS, All of these fine students have demonstrated the
2-26 utmost skill, dedication, and musicianship to earn a place on this
2-27 prestigious band and in doing so have brought great pride to their
3-1 school and community; in addition to this most recent achievement,
3-2 these young men have excelled in various academic and athletic
3-3 pursuits as well and are certainly deserving of high praise and
3-4 legislative recognition for their many accomplishments; now,
3-5 therefore, be it
3-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
3-7 Legislature hereby congratulate Duncanville High School students
3-8 Jeff Rogers, Lee Rogers, Adam Powell, Greg Merrill, and Marty
3-9 Yudizky for their outstanding achievements in being named to the
3-10 All-State Band and extend best wishes to them for their continued
3-11 success; and, be it further
3-12 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
3-13 for each of these talented students and for prominent display at
3-14 Duncanville High School as an expression of high regard by the
3-15 Texas House of Representatives.
