                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Fred Liles recently retired from his position with
    1-2  the city of Fort Worth's planning and development department,
    1-3  drawing to a close four decades of distinguished service to the
    1-4  citizens of this busy metropolis; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A native of Weatherford, Mr. Liles moved to Fort
    1-6  Worth after completing service in the United States Army and in
    1-7  1952 joined the city's public works department where he honed his
    1-8  planning expertise handling plumbing and electrical permits, and
    1-9  later, building permits; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Recognized as an especially hardworking and skilled
   1-11  employee, he advanced to his position in planning and development
   1-12  in 1969 just as the city began a rapid expansion that would peak in
   1-13  the late 1970s and early 1980s; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Responsible for the mapping of this city, which now
   1-15  ranks as one of our state's largest urban areas, Mr. Liles presided
   1-16  over the expanding planning work load with great success during
   1-17  this period of brisk growth, earning widespread respect from
   1-18  colleagues and professionals in the development field for his sharp
   1-19  memory and extensive experience; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Preferring personal contact to the computer and fax
   1-21  machine, Mr. Liles's habit of meeting with people one-on-one has
   1-22  further enhanced the well-deserved reputation he enjoys as a caring
   1-23  and capable professional; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Mr. Liles plans to remain busy in retirement raising
    2-1  livestock and gardening on land he owns near his hometown of
    2-2  Weatherford where his parents, now in their 90s, still reside; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Described by a colleague as someone who does the
    2-4  work of three people, this popular, hardworking, and highly
    2-5  accomplished individual has made many contributions to the citizens
    2-6  of Fort Worth throughout his long and accomplished career and has
    2-7  earned the lasting admiration of his many friends at city hall and
    2-8  in the community; on the occasion of his retirement, it is indeed
    2-9  fitting that he receive legislative recognition for his exemplary
   2-10  record of public service; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-12  Legislature hereby honor Fred Liles for his extraordinary
   2-13  four-decade career with the Fort Worth planning and development
   2-14  department and extend best wishes for his continued success and
   2-15  happiness in his well-deserved retirement; and, be it further
   2-16        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-17  prepared for him as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
   2-18  of Representatives.
