No. 279 73R4571 SDU-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Hazel Lucky, whose generosity to the needy has earned her a special 1-3 place in the hearts of many Texans; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Known as "Mama" Lucky among those she helps, this 1-5 esteemed resident of Fort Worth selflessly carries on a New Year's 1-6 Day tradition begun in 1943 by her parents, who served black-eyed 1-7 peas from their local restaurant, Behn's Place; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Each year, Mrs. Lucky prepares as much as 100 pounds 1-9 of black-eyed peas, 150 pounds of cabbage, and 140 pounds of 1-10 chitlins, which she serves out of her home to as many as 500 needy 1-11 people; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A devoutly religious woman who acts in accordance 1-13 with the highest ideals of her faith, Mrs. Lucky also provides food 1-14 to hungry people on a daily basis in addition to preparing her 1-15 traditional New Year's Day feasts; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Through her outstanding efforts to care for the 1-17 needy and homeless, Hazel Lucky has truly made a difference in the 1-18 lives of thousands of people; in a day and age when increasingly 1-19 few people will take the time to see a wrong and right it, the 1-20 remarkable compassion and dedication displayed by Mrs. Lucky 1-21 provides a worthy example for us all; now, therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 1-23 Legislature hereby commend Hazel Lucky for her exemplary record of 1-24 service to those in need and extend to her best wishes for 2-1 continued success and happiness in the future; and, be it further 2-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-3 prepared for Mrs. Lucky as an expression of high regard by the 2-4 Texas House of Representatives.
