R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
1-2 Lamar Elementary School in Greenville on the momentous occasion of
1-3 its 70th anniversary, which its students and faculty will celebrate
1-4 during Public Schools Week, March 1-5, 1993; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Founded on October 9, 1922, Lamar Elementary School
1-6 was named after Mirabeau B. Lamar, who is widely regarded as the
1-7 "Father of Texas Education"; and
1-8 WHEREAS, The school's first principal was Maud Simonds, an
1-9 education pioneer who shared her considerable leadership skills
1-10 with the school for more than two decades until her retirement in
1-11 1943; today, Lamar's 293 students in grades K through four are
1-12 proudly and capably served in this still-challenging capacity by
1-13 Thurmon Adams; and
1-14 WHEREAS, During its seven decades of service, Lamar
1-15 Elementary School has provided outstanding educational
1-16 opportunities to several generations of Texas schoolchildren;
1-17 surely this fine institution will continue to stand as a symbol of
1-18 pride and accomplishment for its current and former students for
1-19 many years to come; and
1-20 WHEREAS, It is indeed appropriate that the Texas House of
1-21 Representatives praise Lamar Elementary School for its significant
1-22 contributions to the enrichment of its students' lives and the
1-23 betterment of the Greenville community and the State of Texas over
1-24 the course of its rich history; now, therefore, be it
2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-2 Legislature hereby congratulate Lamar Elementary School on the
2-3 occasion of its 70th anniversary and commend all those associated
2-4 with the school on their continuing commitment to excellence in
2-5 education; and, be it further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the
2-8 Texas House of Representatives.
