H.R. No. 286 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Houston Hispanic Forum will sponsor its 7th 1-2 annual Career and Education Day on February 20, 1993, at the George 1-3 R. Brown Convention Center, and that event will enable thousands of 1-4 young people to explore the broad spectrum of educational and 1-5 employment opportunities available to them; and 1-6 WHEREAS, This free, day-long event is open to Hispanic 1-7 students in grades 6 through 12 who attend school districts in the 1-8 Region IV Education Center; parents also are encouraged to attend 1-9 so that they may learn important information that will help them 1-10 guide and encourage their children's plans for the future; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Business and industry leaders will share their 1-12 experience and insight with the students by informing them of 1-13 career opportunities and expectations; this will give students a 1-14 unique chance to interact with professionals in many different 1-15 fields and will assist these young people in choosing their 1-16 scholastic and career paths; and 1-17 WHEREAS, University and college admission officials from all 1-18 over the country also will participate in workshops and panel 1-19 discussions and will provide parents and students with information 1-20 about courses of study, financial aid, scholarships, and entrance 1-21 requirements; and 1-22 WHEREAS, In order to ensure that students are able to meet 1-23 the necessary admissions requirements, school counselors, teachers, 1-24 and principals will be on hand to offer specific advice about 2-1 courses and tests that will help students prepare for higher 2-2 education; they also will inform students of the many other 2-3 opportunities available to them after high school graduation, 2-4 including vocational education and military service; and 2-5 WHEREAS, In addition to providing technical assistance and 2-6 information to an expected 13,000 Hispanic youths from all over the 2-7 Houston area, the members of the Houston Hispanic Forum will 2-8 provide these young people with positive role models and mentors 2-9 who will encourage them to reach beyond the limitations they 2-10 perceive; in doing this, they extend the promise of a brighter 2-11 future to each of these students and ensure that our society will 2-12 reap the rewards of a motivated, educated work force to take us 2-13 into the next century; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-15 Legislature hereby honor the members of the Houston Hispanic Forum 2-16 for their outstanding efforts to help young people through the 2-17 annual Career and Education Day and extend to them warmest best 2-18 wishes for many more years of continued success; and, be it further 2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-20 forwarded to the members of the Houston Hispanic Forum as an 2-21 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. 2-22 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. 2-23 Davila 2-24 H.R.
