                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The contributions made to Texas' greatness by men
    1-2  and women of African ancestry have been innumerable, diverse, and
    1-3  all too often ignored; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Don Hicks, an esteemed member of the Dallas City
    1-5  Council, has worked diligently to increase public awareness of the
    1-6  vital roles played by African-Americans in early Texas history as
    1-7  pioneers, soldiers, cowboys, clergy, politicians, and business
    1-8  people; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The Dallas community, the State of Texas, and the
   1-10  nation at large have benefited profoundly from this exceptional
   1-11  public official's dedicated efforts to remind Texans of the
   1-12  multiplicity of cultures that is their true heritage; largely
   1-13  through his efforts, the Dallas Parks Foundation is considering
   1-14  commissioning a sculpture that will reflect the multicultural
   1-15  history of Texas for placement outside the new wing of the Dallas
   1-16  Convention Center; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks's devotion and hard work are a tribute to
   1-18  the individualism and sheer dogged persistence of pioneer Texans,
   1-19  and it is indeed appropriate that the Texas House of
   1-20  Representatives accord him special recognition and praise; now,
   1-21  therefore, be it
   1-22        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   1-23  Legislature hereby honor Don Hicks for his outstanding efforts to
   1-24  increase public awareness of African-Americans in early Texas
    2-1  history and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success
    2-2  and happiness in the future; and, be it further
    2-3        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-4  prepared for Mr. Hicks as an expression of high regard by the Texas
    2-5  House of Representatives.
