H.R. No. 293 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Throughout Texas' long and vibrant history, on the 1-2 frontier and the battlefield, in business and politics, men and 1-3 women of African ancestry have made lasting but all too often 1-4 ignored contributions to the state's heritage; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Dr. Marvin Dulaney is especially noteworthy among 1-6 the dedicated Texas history scholars who have actively encouraged 1-7 Texans to understand and appreciate the role of African-Americans 1-8 in our state's development; and 1-9 WHEREAS, In 1989, Dr. Dulaney collaborated with Robert Edison 1-10 to present a conference on African-American history in Texas, and 1-11 its success so exceeded their expectations that they were 1-12 encouraged to make it an annual event; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The fourth conference, recently held at El Centro 1-14 College in Dallas through the Museum of African-American Life and 1-15 Culture at Fair Park, attracted scholars and other participants 1-16 from across the state; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Through his devotion and hard work, Dr. Dulaney has 1-18 significantly raised awareness of the diverse roles played by 1-19 African-Americans in shaping Texas' history; it is indeed 1-20 appropriate that the Texas House of Representatives commend him for 1-21 a contribution of such profound benefit to the State of Texas and 1-22 the nation at large; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby honor Dr. Marvin Dulaney for his extraordinary 2-1 contributions to the study of the history of African-Americans in 2-2 Texas and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success 2-3 and happiness in the future; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-5 prepared for Dr. Dulaney as an expression of high regard by the 2-6 Texas House of Representatives. 2-7 Texas House of Representatives. 2-8 Giddings 2-9 H.R.
