H.R. No. 294 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Throughout the long and vibrant history of Texas, 1-2 men and women of African ancestry have made lasting but all too 1-3 often ignored contributions to the state's heritage; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-5 Robert Edison for his dedicated efforts to help Texans understand 1-6 and appreciate the role of African-Americans in our state's 1-7 development; and 1-8 WHEREAS, In 1989, Mr. Edison, a teacher of history at the 1-9 Pearl C. Anderson Learning Center in South Dallas, collaborated 1-10 with Dr. Marvin Dulaney to present a conference on African-American 1-11 history in Texas; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The conference's success so exceeded their 1-13 expectations that they were encouraged to make it an annual event; 1-14 the fourth conference, recently held at El Centro College in Dallas 1-15 through the Museum of African-American Life and Culture at Fair 1-16 Park, attracted scholars and other participants from across the 1-17 state; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Through his devotion and hard work, Mr. Edison has 1-19 significantly raised awareness of the role played by 1-20 African-Americans in shaping Texas' history; his contribution has 1-21 profoundly benefited the state and the nation at large and is 1-22 indeed deserving of special legislative recognition and praise; 1-23 now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby honor Robert Edison for his exceptional 2-2 contributions to the study of the history of African-Americans in 2-3 Texas and extend to him best wishes for continued success and 2-4 happiness in the future; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for Mr. Edison as an expression of high regard by the 2-7 Texas House of Representatives. 2-8 Texas House of Representatives. 2-9 Giddings 2-10 H.R.
