H.R. No. 297 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Minnie Collins Boyd on January 2, 1-2 1993, at the age of 83, is a great loss to her family, friends, and 1-3 the many members of her church and community who were privileged to 1-4 be touched by her remarkable spirit and compassion; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The only daughter among Richard and Anna Lee 1-6 Collins' five children, Mrs. Boyd was born in Mineola on February 1-7 11, 1909; following her graduation from high school in Sulphur 1-8 Springs, she worked tirelessly for more than 60 years in homes 1-9 throughout the Dallas area; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Mrs. Boyd was a dedicated member of the Good Street 1-11 Baptist Church for more than 50 years, and she eagerly contributed 1-12 her talents to the enrichment of the entire congregation; in 1-13 addition to singing in the church choir, she was actively involved 1-14 in Sunday school and in the Sisterhood; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Together with her husband, Joseph Boyd, Mrs. Boyd 1-16 raised five children, instilling in them strong moral values and 1-17 continually emphasizing the importance of education to their future 1-18 successes; a loving and supportive mother, she encouraged her 1-19 children to perform to the best of their abilities and proudly 1-20 followed their individual honors and awards in both their academic 1-21 and professional careers; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Mrs. Boyd exuded a vibrant zest for life, and in her 1-23 fervent quest for new and exciting experiences, she traveled 1-24 extensively throughout the United States and the world; at age 82, 2-1 this dynamic lady visited Europe for 26 days, she explored the 2-2 Caribbean the following year, and had planned a South Seas voyage 2-3 for the spring of 1993; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Mrs. Boyd will be remembered affectionately as an 2-5 exciting, fun-loving individual, full of love and concern for 2-6 others, and her example will continue to inspire the many people 2-7 whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-9 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Minnie Collins Boyd 2-10 and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her family: to her 2-11 husband of more than 50 years, Joseph Boyd; to her brother, Itsie 2-12 Collins of San Francisco; to her daughter and son-in-law, Baby 2-13 Dalle and Forest Hancock of San Diego; to her daughter, Lovia C. 2-14 Boyd of Ennis; to her daughter and son-in-law, Gwendolyn and 2-15 Earnest Hill of Dallas; to her two sons and daughters-in-law, 2-16 Willie and Blanche Lewis Brown, Jr., of San Francisco, and James 2-17 and Marilyn Walton of Tacoma, Washington; to her 25 grandchildren 2-18 and 32 great-grandchildren; and to the many other relatives and 2-19 friends of this remarkable woman; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-21 for the members of her family and that when the Texas House of 2-22 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Minnie 2-23 Collins Boyd. 2-24 Collins Boyd. 2-25 Jones of Dallas 2-26 H.R.
