                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas A&M University football team has achieved
    1-2  outstanding success in the 1992 gridiron campaign, appearing as the
    1-3  host team in the 1993 Mobil Cotton Bowl, and finishing its season
    1-4  with an exceptional record of 12 wins against only one defeat; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The 1992 Aggie squad became only the fifth college
    1-6  football team ever to win 12 regular season games, exceeding by one
    1-7  the number of victories posted by the school's legendary 1939
    1-8  national championship team; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Establishing a tradition of football excellence,
   1-10  Texas A&M has been victorious in 21 consecutive regular season
   1-11  games, including 15 straight conference wins, and their consistent
   1-12  achievements have been deservingly reflected each week in the
   1-13  national rankings; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, A juggernaut on defense, the Aggies led the
   1-15  conference in every defensive category during the 1992 season,
   1-16  duplicating the success of the previous year's A&M squad, and
   1-17  becoming the first team in Southwest Conference football history to
   1-18  achieve such defensive dominance in successive years; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Much of this year's outstanding football success is
   1-20  attributable to the exceptional leadership of head coach
   1-21  R. C. Slocum, who, since taking the helm in 1989, has become the
   1-22  first coach in Texas A&M history to guide his team to four
   1-23  consecutive bowl appearances, and whose overall record as head
   1-24  coach is 39-10-1; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The season's impressive achievements were the result
    2-2  of a total team effort and selfless contributions throughout the
    2-3  year from members Sam Adams, Dennis Allen, Ross Aschenbeck, Jason
    2-4  Ashworth, Jason Andrus, Jason Atkinson, Patrick Bates, Marcus

    3-2        WHEREAS, Although each team member made a significant
    3-3  contribution to the Aggies' success, several players also attained
    3-4  individual honors:  linebacker Marcus Buckley was Southwest
    3-5  Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a consensus All-America
    3-6  selection; Patrick Bates was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award
    3-7  and made several All-America squads; Aaron Glenn was Southwest
    3-8  Conference Defensive Newcomer of the Year; and Greg Hill was a
    3-9  consensus All-Southwest Conference running back; and
   3-10        WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young men has, along with
   3-11  their coaches and staff, ably represented the pride and tradition
   3-12  of Texas A&M University, and their exceptional accomplishments have
   3-13  rightfully earned them special legislative recognition; now,
   3-14  therefore, be it
   3-15        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   3-16  Legislature hereby congratulate head coach R. C. Slocum and the
   3-17  Texas A&M University Aggies on their outstanding 1992 gridiron
   3-18  campaign and extend to them best wishes for continued success in
   3-19  the future; and, be it further
   3-20        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   3-21  for head coach R. C. Slocum, the members of the team, and the
   3-22  coaching staff as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
   3-23  of Representatives.
