H.R. No. 309
                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Elizabeth Guillory, an outstanding senior at
    1-2  Monsignor Kelly High School in Beaumont, has been named the
    1-3  recipient of the Horatio Alger Scholarship and this special
    1-4  recognition is indeed well deserved; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, This prestigious scholarship is presented by the
    1-6  Horatio Alger Association to exemplary students who have
    1-7  demonstrated self-reliance, individual initiative and integrity,
    1-8  leadership in school activities, academic achievement, and a
    1-9  commitment to public service; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The niece of the Honorable Al Price, who takes great
   1-11  pride in her accomplishments, Ms. Guillory is a committed and
   1-12  hardworking young lady who has established an exceptional record of
   1-13  achievement as a student at Monsignor Kelly High School; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, She has been awarded numerous honors, including the
   1-15  John Conway Scholarship, the Service Above Self Award from the
   1-16  Rotary Club of Beaumont, and a listing in Who's Who Among American
   1-17  High School Students, and was one of a select number of students
   1-18  chosen from throughout the country to participate in the LEAD
   1-19  Program in Business at The University of Texas at Austin; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, A student leader on campus, Ms. Guillory serves as
   1-21  president of the Anchor Club, has been active in varsity
   1-22  basketball, track and field, and volleyball, has served as
   1-23  president of the Black History Month Committee throughout all four
   1-24  years of high school, and is an active member of the Beaumont
    2-1  chapter of Jack and Jill; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Elizabeth Guillory has demonstrated exceptional
    2-3  intelligence, initiative, and maturity in successfully pursuing a
    2-4  variety of academic and civic goals and it is indeed fitting that
    2-5  she be honored on the occasion of her most recent achievement; now,
    2-6  therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-8  Legislature hereby congratulate Elizabeth Guillory on her receipt
    2-9  of the Horatio Alger Scholarship and extend to her sincere best
   2-10  wishes for continued success and happiness in college; and, be it
   2-11  further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-13  prepared for Ms. Guillory as an expression of high regard by the
   2-14  Texas House of Representatives.
