H.R. No. 314 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The life of Frederick John Banzhaf, which had 1-2 brought so much joy and happiness into the lives of others, ended 1-3 all too soon with his death on November 24, 1992, at the age of 18, 1-4 and his passing has profoundly saddened the members of his family 1-5 and all of the friends who had been privileged to know and love 1-6 him; and 1-7 WHEREAS, From early on, the second of six children born to 1-8 Wally and Rose Banzhaf had demonstrated his characteristic zeal for 1-9 living, pouring his youthful energy and enthusiasm into all of the 1-10 many activities in which he became involved and excelling in all of 1-11 his endeavors; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A bright and talented young man, Fred began 1-13 displaying exceptional promise as early as the fourth grade, when 1-14 he was identified as a candidate for the REACH program; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Participating in the program for the next three 1-16 years, he developed a love for computers that would blossom during 1-17 his junior high school and high school years when he became an 1-18 honors student and performed well in advanced classes in computers; 1-19 he also demonstrated superior ability in his advanced mathematics, 1-20 physics, English, and Japanese classes; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Fred had an insatiable thirst for knowledge in other 1-22 areas, too, and was fascinated by the study of history, geography, 1-23 and German; his scholastic achievements in the many areas that 1-24 excited him made him a valued member of the Berkner High School 2-1 academic decathlon team; and 2-2 WHEREAS, A model student who participated in numerous 2-3 extracurricular activities while at Berkner High School, he 2-4 excelled both inside and outside the classroom; he channeled much 2-5 of his physical energy into sports, playing soccer, football, 2-6 baseball, and basketball and officiating athletic contests in city 2-7 recreational leagues when he was not participating as a player; and 2-8 WHEREAS, He also found an outlet for his wide array of 2-9 interests in scouting as a member of Scout Troop 444, and while 2-10 working his way through the ranks earned numerous medals and badges 2-11 for the knowledge and expertise he acquired through the years; his 2-12 scouting experiences also allowed him to develop exceptional 2-13 leadership skills, which he constantly put to use to serve others 2-14 in his community; and 2-15 WHEREAS, His zest for life, his desire to connect with other 2-16 people, and his selfless concern for the well-being of others 2-17 emanated from and reflected an abiding faith in God, which also 2-18 found its expression in his involvement in activities and 2-19 organizations in his church; and 2-20 WHEREAS, Whether pouring his energy into scouting, 2-21 schoolwork, sports, or church activities, Fred was a source of 2-22 pride and joy to his parents, a fun-loving and life-affirming 2-23 friend to his peers, and an inspiration to all who came to know 2-24 him, and though his presence will be deeply missed, Fred Banzhaf 2-25 will surely live on in the cherished memories of those he leaves 2-26 behind; now, therefore, be it 2-27 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 3-1 Legislature hereby honor the memory of Frederick John Banzhaf and 3-2 extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his 3-3 mother and father, Rose and Wally Banzhaf; to his five brothers and 3-4 sisters, Emil, George, Peter, Kate, and Kim; to his aunts and 3-5 uncles and his 30 cousins; and to all of the other family members 3-6 and friends who have mourned his passing; and, be it further 3-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-8 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 3-9 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 3-10 Frederick John Banzhaf. 3-11 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 3-12 Frederick John Banzhaf. 3-13 Hill 3-14 H.R.
