R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The life of Justin Marquart, which had been full of
1-2 joy and promise, was cut tragically short by his death on November
1-3 24, 1992, at the age of 18, and his passing has profoundly saddened
1-4 the members of his family and all of the friends who had been
1-5 privileged to know and love him; and
1-6 WHEREAS, The devoted son and only child of Steve and Darlene
1-7 Marquart, Justin brought boundless enthusiasm to everything that he
1-8 did, infecting everyone about him with his joyful zest for living,
1-9 and his characteristic love of life was manifest in the wide range
1-10 of activities in which he was engaged; and
1-11 WHEREAS, During his years at Berkner High School in
1-12 Richardson, he earned a well-deserved reputation as a bright and
1-13 ambitious young man, an avid reader, a music lover, and an
1-14 accomplished scholar who excelled in academic endeavors, and one of
1-15 the achievements of which he was most proud was the 1,580 score he
1-16 attained on his SAT; and
1-17 WHEREAS, Coupled with his outstanding scholastic performance
1-18 at Berkner High School, where he had been a member of the academic
1-19 decathlon team for two years, his near-perfect college entrance
1-20 examination score had gained him acceptance into the prestigious
1-21 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; and
1-22 WHEREAS, Although he was a gifted student, he had achieved
1-23 his success by virtue of his hard work and dedication in the
1-24 pursuit of his goals throughout his life, and in order to realize
2-1 his dreams of enrolling at the institute, Justin had deferred his
2-2 collegiate career for a year to take a job that would allow him to
2-3 help defray part of the tuition expense; and
2-4 WHEREAS, Outgoing and energetic as well as studious, he took
2-5 a job at a local sporting goods store that also gave him an
2-6 opportunity to share his passion for the outdoors with other
2-7 people; he loved to camp, climb mountains, and go rafting and only
2-8 recently had earned his certification as a scuba diver, which he
2-9 had hoped to use during the winter on scuba diving expeditions with
2-10 his father; and
2-11 WHEREAS, He also expressed his fondness for the outdoors
2-12 through his involvement in the Boy Scouts of America, in which
2-13 organization he excelled as he had at Berkner High School; a member
2-14 of Scout Troop 444, he was looking forward to receiving the supreme
2-15 honor to which a scout can aspire, the coveted silver Eagle badge
2-16 he had earned when he attained the rank of Eagle Scout; and
2-17 WHEREAS, An exemplary individual, he was a source of unending
2-18 pride and joy to his parents, a true and loyal companion to his
2-19 friends, and an inspiration to all who came to know him, and though
2-20 his presence is gone from us now, Justin Marquart will surely live
2-21 on in the hearts and minds of all those whose lives he touched;
2-22 now, therefore, be it
2-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-24 Legislature hereby honor the memory of Justin Marquart and extend
2-25 deepest sympathy to his mother and father, Steve and Darlene
2-26 Marquart, and to all of the other family members and friends who
2-27 have mourned the passing of this fine young man; and, be it further
3-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-2 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
3-3 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
3-4 Justin Marquart.
