                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Fluctuating oil and gas markets, alternative energy
    1-2  issues, and a host of environmental concerns have catapulted energy
    1-3  management concerns to the forefront of public policy issues facing
    1-4  Texas and other states across the nation; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The issues are particularly important for the Lone
    1-6  Star State, which has been both a leading energy producer and a
    1-7  leading energy consumer; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, The federal Energy Policy Act of 1992, recently
    1-9  signed by President Bush, is designed to decrease our nation's
   1-10  traditional reliance on foreign oil and seeks to increase
   1-11  production of domestic energy while promoting energy efficiency in
   1-12  all sectors of the economy; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Public education efforts, such as those instituted
   1-14  by the Texas Energy Education Development Project, an undertaking
   1-15  of Texas public school students, are vital to the success of our
   1-16  nation's energy management and conservation program; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The project conducts innovative public awareness
   1-18  campaigns for students across the state, focusing on energy and
   1-19  environmental issues through summer conferences, informational
   1-20  posters, workbooks, and workshops; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Such efforts to enlighten tomorrow's citizens and
   1-22  leaders are of tantamount importance to the state and to the
   1-23  nation, and it is indeed fitting that the Texas Energy Education
   1-24  Development Project be given special legislative recognition for
    2-1  its outstanding efforts in promoting energy awareness; now,
    2-2  therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-4  Legislature hereby designate March 19, 1993, as Texas Energy
    2-5  Education Day and commend the Texas Energy Education Development
    2-6  Project and the many students throughout the state who have made
    2-7  the project a success.
