                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Robert M. "Bob" Brister has recently retired from
    1-2  his position as outdoors editor of the Houston Chronicle, drawing
    1-3  to a close a remarkable career that has spanned nearly four
    1-4  decades; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Beginning his tenure with the Chronicle in 1954,
    1-6  this exceptional writer brought a true outdoorsman's perspective to
    1-7  his work, and his columns reflected a profound respect of and
    1-8  appreciation for the bounties of nature; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Seeking to provide his readers with more than local
   1-10  and regional coverage, Mr. Brister showed a true adventurer's
   1-11  spirit by undertaking a perilous six-week safari to Botswana in
   1-12  1972; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, An exceptional marksman, Mr. Brister demonstrated
   1-14  his superior skills as a champion in both national and
   1-15  international shotgun competitions and was at one time the shooting
   1-16  editor for Field and Stream; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A renowned author, his outstanding collection of
   1-18  short stories, Golden Crescent, was published in 1969, and
   1-19  Shotgunning, the Art and Science, considered the definitive work in
   1-20  the field, was published in 1976; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Understanding the obligation to preserve our natural
   1-22  wonders for generations to come, Mr. Brister was instrumental in
   1-23  launching the Gulf Coast Conservation Association; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Throughout his exceptional career, this devoted
    2-1  family man has enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Sandy, and
    2-2  also has taken great pleasure in the devoted companionship of his
    2-3  dog, Jake; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Mr. Brister's remarkable ability to communicate his
    2-5  appreciation of the great outdoors has enlightened and delighted
    2-6  his many readers throughout his storied career, and as he begins
    2-7  his well-deserved retirement, he can indeed look back with
    2-8  tremendous pride and satisfaction on his many accomplishments; now,
    2-9  therefore, be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-11  Legislature hereby commend Robert M. "Bob" Brister on his
   2-12  remarkable contributions as outdoors editor for the Houston
   2-13  Chronicle and extend sincere best wishes to him for a happy and
   2-14  productive retirement; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-16  prepared for Mr. Brister as an expression of high regard by the
   2-17  Texas House of Representatives.
