                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The citizens of Caldwell joined the employees of the
    1-2  Caldwell National Bank and many others on February 5, 1993, to
    1-3  celebrate the 90th anniversary of this revered local institution at
    1-4  a reception and dedication of the bank's historical marker by the
    1-5  Texas Historical Commission; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The oldest financial institution in Burleson County,
    1-7  the Caldwell National Bank opened its doors in 1903, the year the
    1-8  Boston Red Sox won the first World Series; in the county that year
    1-9  the first chamber of commerce was organized and local residents
   1-10  were paying just four cents for a loaf of bread; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Starting with a modest $25,000 in capital stock and
   1-12  35 initial investors, the Caldwell National Bank quickly surpassed
   1-13  its rival, the First National Bank of Caldwell, which had been
   1-14  founded two weeks later; absorbing the First National Bank in 1906,
   1-15  the Caldwell National Bank proceeded to steadily grow and prosper
   1-16  over the many years, becoming a familiar and cherished fixture on
   1-17  the local scene; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, A vital component of the local economy, this
   1-19  historic bank has enabled the Caldwell community to flourish as
   1-20  well, and consistently has supported area citizens through good and
   1-21  bad times, outlasting even the lean years of the Great Depression;
   1-22  and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The current president of the Caldwell National Bank,
   1-24  Salvatore A. "Sal" Zaccagnino, has enjoyed a highly successful and
    2-1  well-regarded tenure since assuming his duties in 1989 and
    2-2  continues the proud tradition of wise and steadfast leadership
    2-3  established by his accomplished predecessors, beginning with the
    2-4  institution's first president, J. J. Lane, a wholesale merchant who
    2-5  organized the bank in 1903; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, During the recent difficult economic times that saw
    2-7  some of our state's larger banks struggle, the Caldwell National
    2-8  Bank has continued to thrive and to serve the many hardworking
    2-9  citizens of this county with great dedication; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, Thanks to the integrity, devotion, and skill of the
   2-11  bank's employees and their longstanding commitment to the
   2-12  community, the Caldwell National Bank is truly an outstanding
   2-13  financial institution that is an excellent model for all businesses
   2-14  in our state and is indeed deserving of special legislative
   2-15  recognition on reaching its 90th year; now, therefore, be it
   2-16        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-17  Legislature hereby join with the citizens of Caldwell in
   2-18  celebrating the 90th anniversary of the Caldwell National Bank;
   2-19  and, be it further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-21  prepared for prominent display at the Caldwell National Bank as an
   2-22  expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
