H.R. No. 341 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Recognized throughout the state and nation for their 1-2 exceptional talent and outstanding record of competitive success, 1-3 members of the DeSoto High School Eaglette Drill Team will travel 1-4 to Austin to visit the State Capitol on Thursday, March 25, 1993; 1-5 and 1-6 WHEREAS, A fine example of the remarkable abilities of Texas 1-7 youth, this model team consistently has upheld high standards of 1-8 physical and academic excellence; line members are selected on the 1-9 basis of dance ability and must maintain a 75 grade average, while 1-10 officers must keep a grade average of 80 and are additionally 1-11 chosen for their leadership, teaching, and choreographic skills; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, Under the instruction of director Michele DuVall and 1-14 the leadership of captain Jennifer Rohde, lieutenants Kelli 1-15 McDaniel, LaKisha Johnson, Cindy Wiedeman, and Kim Covert, 1-16 president Daphne Erskine, vice-president Julie Anderson, and 1-17 treasurer Amy Bacon, the Eaglette Drill Team has met with 1-18 considerable success and its long list of accomplishments is a 1-19 source of pride and distinction for the entire school; and 1-20 WHEREAS, In memorable performances at the Miss Texas Drill 1-21 Team Competition, the Eaglettes were honored for their fine 1-22 choreography, technique, presentation, and creativity and were 1-23 named "Tops in Texas;" similarly, at the Showtime Competition, they 1-24 were voted best in their category and were named to the Circle of 2-1 Champions; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Continuing its tradition of excellence, this 2-3 remarkable team was the Grand Champion at the Maverick Senior Drill 2-4 Team Competition, with its officers attaining the Award of 2-5 Excellence; at NCA Camp held at Southern Methodist University, both 2-6 officers and line members were awarded the Home Routine Award and 2-7 Sweepstakes, while officers, participating in categories of their 2-8 own, won the Leadership Award and an invitation to dance in the 2-9 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York; and 2-10 WHEREAS, This fine group stands as a shining example to teams 2-11 everywhere of the importance of determination and enthusiasm in 2-12 contributing to excellence in interscholastic competition; the 2-13 team's hard work and dedication are indeed worthy of special 2-14 legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-16 Legislature hereby commend the members of the DeSoto High School 2-17 Eaglette Drill Team for their admirable tradition of quality and 2-18 excellence and officially welcome the representatives of this 2-19 dedicated group of athletes to the Capitol; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-21 for members of the team, its directors, and for prominent display 2-22 at DeSoto High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-23 House of Representatives. 2-24 Goolsby 2-25 Davis 2-26 Goolsby
