                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes special
    1-2  pleasure in honoring Party Smart, an alcohol awareness and
    1-3  education program that encourages responsibility and moderation in
    1-4  drinking and offers designated driver and other programs designed
    1-5  to address and reduce abuse drinking; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Targeting adults over the age of 21 who have made
    1-7  the decision to consume alcohol, this program neither promotes nor
    1-8  discourages drinking; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The Party Smart Education Project was developed and
   1-10  is coordinated by the Beer Drinkers of America, a nonprofit
   1-11  consumer and advocacy organization with more than 700,000 members
   1-12  in all 50 states; in December 1992, this successful project earned
   1-13  an official commendation from the National Commission Against Drunk
   1-14  Driving; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, This admirable program recently was adopted in
   1-16  Daytona Beach, Florida, and will soon join forces with the city of
   1-17  South Padre Island, working with bars, hotels, motels, restaurants,
   1-18  and other retail businesses to encourage student participation in
   1-19  the Party Smart program during this year's spring break; now,
   1-20  therefore, be it
   1-21        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   1-22  Legislature hereby recognize March 1993 as Party Smart Month in
   1-23  Texas in recognition of the many important efforts of the Party
   1-24  Smart program in promoting responsible drinking during the spring
    2-1  break season; and, be it further
    2-2        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-3  prepared for the Party Smart Education Project as an expression of
    2-4  esteem and support by the Texas House of Representatives.
