H.R. No. 370 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 the Metropolitan Dallas Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta 1-3 Sorority, Inc., and the participants in the organization's 1-4 successful Summit III program; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The Summit III program involves high school-age 1-6 African-American men in educational, career-oriented, and 1-7 self-esteem building activities that encourage both their positive 1-8 participation in society and pride in their communities, heritage, 1-9 and culture; currently 32 young men from Dallas high schools 1-10 Lincoln, Madison, South Oak Cliff, and Kimball are enrolled in the 1-11 program; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A key component of Summit III is the invaluable 1-13 contributions of local businessmen, professionals, and public 1-14 employees who share their knowledge and experience with the young 1-15 men, serving as positive role models and as trusted advisors; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Since 1992, Summit III participants have attended a 1-17 number of useful workshops focusing on career education, 1-18 communication, and motivation, as well as a seminar on AIDS and sex 1-19 education, and a popular three-day camp retreat at Lake Sharon; and 1-20 WHEREAS, On their visit to the State Capitol, program 1-21 participants will have an opportunity to study the legislative 1-22 process, meet with their representative, and dine at nearby Scholz 1-23 Garten; and 1-24 WHEREAS, By taking part in the Summit III program, 2-1 these young men have taken great strides toward achieving a 2-2 brighter future and, together with the many dedicated professionals 2-3 and the members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., who make this 2-4 worthwhile program possible, they are making a positive difference 2-5 in their community that is indeed deserving of special legislative 2-6 recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby commend the Metropolitan Dallas Alumni Chapter 2-9 of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the young men of Summit 2-10 III and welcome them on their visit to the State Capitol; and, be 2-11 it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-13 for the Metropolitan Dallas Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta 2-14 Sorority, Inc., as an expression of high regard by the Texas House 2-15 of Representatives. 2-16 of Representatives. 2-17 Giddings 2-18 H.R.
