H.R. No. 373 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Dr. Price Brock of Abilene for his distinguished service as a 1-3 U.S. Navy surgeon during the Vietnam War; and 1-4 WHEREAS, This exceptional individual joined the U.S. Naval 1-5 Reserve during his junior year at Mississippi College and went on 1-6 active duty after graduating from Baylor University Medical School; 1-7 and 1-8 WHEREAS, Attached to the Marine Corps as a battalion surgeon, 1-9 Navy Lieutenant Brock began his tour of duty in Vietnam just as the 1-10 bloody Tet Offensive began in early 1968; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Assigned to Hue with the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 1-12 he and three corpsmen worked around the clock for several days at a 1-13 time throughout four bitterly fought weeks; and 1-14 WHEREAS, During his 13 months of duty in Vietnam, he was 1-15 wounded three times and took one North Vietnamese army soldier 1-16 prisoner in hand-to-hand combat; and 1-17 WHEREAS, After returning to the United States and being 1-18 reunited with his beloved wife, Nancy, Dr. Brock completed a 1-19 four-year residency in orthopedic surgery in Houston and then 1-20 opened his practice in Abilene in 1973; and 1-21 WHEREAS, During his distinguished medical career, Dr. Brock 1-22 has served as chief of staff of the Hendrick Medical Center and as 1-23 a member of the Hendrick Medical Foundation Board; a fellow of the 1-24 American College of Orthopedic Surgeons, he has contributed his 2-1 professional expertise to his community as the athletic team 2-2 physician for both Abilene High School and Cooper High School and 2-3 was instrumental in introducing scoliosis screening in the Abilene 2-4 Independent School District; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Dr. Brock and his wife, the daughter of Frank Croson 2-6 Bouknight and Hilda Bouknight and the late Stewart Lee Calhoun, are 2-7 both involved in civic affairs in Abilene and West Texas, where 2-8 Dr. Brock has served as deacon and Sunday school teacher at the 2-9 First Baptist Church and as a board member of the Abilene 2-10 Philharmonics and the West Texas Rehabilitation Center; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Throughout his life Dr. Brock has benefited from the 2-12 guidance provided by his parents, the Reverend Price Brock, Sr., 2-13 and Norma Jane Brock, and he takes pride in the accomplishments of 2-14 his two fine children, Rachel Susanna Brock and Bryan Ellis Brock; 2-15 and 2-16 WHEREAS, It is indeed appropriate that the Texas House of 2-17 Representatives recognize Dr. Brock's courage under fire and the 2-18 utter devotion he showed to "his" Marines that earned him the 2-19 respect and admiration of all who served with him; now, therefore, 2-20 be it 2-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-22 Legislature hereby commend Dr. Price Brock for his distinguished 2-23 service as a surgeon in the United States Navy and extend to him 2-24 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the 2-25 future; and, be it further 2-26 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-27 prepared for this esteemed Texan as an expression of high regard by 3-1 the Texas House of Representatives. 3-2 the Texas House of Representatives. 3-3 Goolsby 3-4 H.R.
