No. 387 73R6309 KMP-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that the Texas House of 1-2 Representatives honors the officers and employees of Austin 1-3 Industries, Inc., on the occasion of the company's 75th 1-4 anniversary; and 1-5 WHEREAS, One of the nation's largest general contractors, 1-6 this Dallas-based company was founded as the Austin Brothers Bridge 1-7 Company on March 1, 1918, and soon thereafter completed its first 1-8 job, the construction of a West Texas bridge spanning the Red 1-9 River; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Under the able guidance of William T. Solomon, the 1-11 company's president since 1970, Austin Industries has earned a 1-12 well-deserved reputation for its dedication to excellence and hard 1-13 work, constructing numerous roads and buildings for both the public 1-14 and private sectors; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The city of Dallas has benefited greatly from the 1-16 efforts of this outstanding Texas firm, which built the downtown 1-17 Triple Underpass, the Commerce Street Viaduct, and the Dallas-Fort 1-18 Worth Turnpike, now Interstate 30; the city's largest high-rise, 1-19 the 72-story NationsBank Plaza, and the city's latest major 1-20 skyscraper, the 56-story Texas Commerce Tower, were also built by 1-21 Austin Industries; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The 5,500 employees of this exceptional business, 1-23 who own 70 percent of their company, can take immense pride in 1-24 their many other accomplishments, including the construction of the 2-1 Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and several petrochemical plants on 2-2 the Texas Gulf Coast; and 2-3 WHEREAS, These committed employees currently are hard at work 2-4 on the new Electronic Data Systems headquarters in Plano, which at 2-5 more than 4 million square feet will be the largest office and 2-6 parking complex ever built in North Texas; and 2-7 WHEREAS, During the past 75 years, Austin Industries has made 2-8 invaluable contributions to the well-being of Texas citizens and 2-9 the growth of Texas commerce; the diligence and integrity of this 2-10 company's officers and employees are indeed worthy of special 2-11 recognition and praise; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-13 Legislature hereby commend president William Solomon and the 2-14 employees of Austin Industries, Inc., for their many fine 2-15 achievements and honor them on the occasion of the company's 75th 2-16 anniversary; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-18 prepared for Mr. Solomon and the employees of Austin Industries, 2-19 Inc., as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-20 Representatives.
