R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, With his recent retirement from the Shell
1-2 Oil/Chemical Deer Park Manufacturing Complex on March 1, 1993, Jack
1-3 R. Oliphant drew to a close an exceptional 40-year record of
1-4 service in the field of fire prevention and safety; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Oliphant is highly regarded for the expertise
1-6 and leadership abilities he displayed during his distinguished
1-7 service as fire chief at the Deer Park Manufacturing Complex since
1-8 1980; recognizing the duties and obligations of his position, he
1-9 worked tirelessly throughout his fine tenure to uphold and enforce
1-10 standards of safety for the protection of employees and community
1-11 alike; and
1-12 WHEREAS, With remarkable dedication, he has actively served
1-13 in many valued capacities in both voluntary and professional
1-14 organizations; as fire chief of the La Porte Volunteer Fire
1-15 Department from 1972 to 1976, he provided the foundation for smooth
1-16 and efficient direction in emergency and rescue operations, and in
1-17 his positions as chairman, steering committee chairman, and
1-18 specialist for Channel Industries Mutual Aid, he has continued to
1-19 encourage standards of excellence in the field; and
1-20 WHEREAS, Mr. Oliphant also is a member of the State
1-21 Industrial Certification Board, the State Firemen's and Fire
1-22 Marshals' Association of Texas, the Technical Committee on Loss
1-23 Prevention and Procedures of the National Fire Protection
1-24 Association, and advisory board chairman for the San Jacinto
2-1 College of Fire Protection Technology; and
2-2 WHEREAS, With his commitment to the highest professional
2-3 standards, Mr. Oliphant has proven an indispensable asset in the
2-4 positions he has held and his admirable contributions will be
2-5 greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-7 Legislature hereby honor Jack R. Oliphant for his many years of
2-8 distinguished service, congratulate him on the occasion of his
2-9 retirement, and extend to him warmest best wishes for continued
2-10 success and happiness in his future endeavors; and, be it further
2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12 prepared for Mr. Oliphant as an expression of high regard by the
2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
