                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  the Reverend Charles L.  Jackson for his many years of devoted
    1-3  service to the spiritual needs of his congregation and community;
    1-4  and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The highly regarded pastor of Pleasant Grove
    1-6  Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, this remarkable clergyman has
    1-7  served the members of his congregation with utmost distinction for
    1-8  23 years, providing innovative and visionary leadership and
    1-9  communicating his inspirational message to countless individuals
   1-10  through a number of successful media, which include television,
   1-11  radio, print, and street ministries, to name but a few; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Under Pastor Jackson's able direction, Pleasant
   1-13  Grove Missionary Baptist Church played a leading role in the
   1-14  television ministry movement when it first began in the early 1970s
   1-15  with live television broadcasts from the church's sanctuary that
   1-16  reached millions of homes; Pastor Jackson's extraordinarily
   1-17  successful television ministry followed his equally successful
   1-18  radio ministry, which was established in 1970; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards, this gifted
   1-20  communicator has authored nine books, has recorded six albums and
   1-21  800 sermons on cassette tape, and has travelled worldwide sharing
   1-22  his religious insights with others; his extensive travels have
   1-23  included a memorable trip to Southern Africa where he was welcomed
   1-24  by heads of state, business and governmental leaders, and local
    2-1  citizens; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, At home in Houston, Pastor Jackson leads a
    2-3  congregation that is one of the largest in the city and that
    2-4  continues to grow and flourish with each passing year;
    2-5  acknowledging the necessity of expanded facilities to serve the
    2-6  church's growing community, Pastor Jackson has overseen the
    2-7  construction of the church's 5,000-seat sanctuary and the
    2-8  renovation of the church's education building and is currently
    2-9  supervising plans for a family recreation center; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, Pastor Jackson is a native of Houston who was
   2-11  graduated from Phillis Wheatley Senior High School and earned a
   2-12  bachelor of theology degree in 1973 from the Institutional Baptist
   2-13  Theological Center, Inc.; a dedicated scholar, he also has pursued
   2-14  studies at Moody College and with the Billy Graham Crusade; and
   2-15        WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Pastor Jackson
   2-16  has been supported in all his endeavors by his loving wife, Bettie,
   2-17  and the couple's two children, Sheldon and Bridgette; and
   2-18        WHEREAS, Widely respected and admired by all who know him,
   2-19  Pastor Jackson has touched the lives of many people throughout his
   2-20  outstanding career, and he has united individuals worldwide with
   2-21  his great vision and initiative; a man of exemplary faith and
   2-22  generosity, he has contributed immeasurably to the spiritual life
   2-23  of this state, and he is indeed deserving of special legislative
   2-24  recognition for his many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
   2-25        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-26  Legislature hereby commend the Reverend Charles L. Jackson for 23
   2-27  years of exemplary service with Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist
    3-1  Church and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success
    3-2  and happiness for many years to come; and, be it further
    3-3        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-4  prepared for Reverend Jackson as an expression of highest regard by
    3-5  the Texas House of Representatives.
