                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to
    1-2  welcome the West Point Cadet Glee Club, which will showcase its
    1-3  considerable talents with a special performance in the rotunda of
    1-4  the State Capitol; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, During the 90 years since its debut, the West Point
    1-6  Cadet Glee Club has delighted audiences throughout this nation and
    1-7  in Ireland and Canada becoming in the process one of the most
    1-8  famous organizations of the United States Military Academy; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, First organized in 1903, the Glee Club became a
   1-10  permanent institution at the academy in September 1933 with 25
   1-11  singers and now has a total membership of approximately 100 male
   1-12  and female cadets; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The Glee Club's repertoire depicts the history of
   1-14  the Armed Forces and encompasses concert pieces, current hit songs,
   1-15  American and foreign folk songs, and contemporary ballads; three
   1-16  specialty groups with the club include a male/female ensemble
   1-17  called Mixed Company, an a cappella quintet called the Grouptones,
   1-18  and a contemporary group, the Headliners; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, These gifted vocalists travel extensively throughout
   1-20  the year, performing up to 30 concerts annually and have appeared
   1-21  in some of the nation's most famous concert halls and shared the
   1-22  spotlight with such beloved entertainers as Bob Hope, Bing Crosby,
   1-23  Dinah Shore, and Roberta Peters; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Additionally, the Glee Club has graced several
    2-1  presidential inaugurations and experienced one of its proudest
    2-2  moments when it was asked to provide a special homecoming
    2-3  performance for American hostages returning from Iran; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Throughout its rich history, the West Point Cadet
    2-5  Glee Club has provided entertainment for millions of Americans and
    2-6  brought great honor to the nation's oldest service academy, and it
    2-7  is indeed deserving of special legislative recognition and praise
    2-8  for its continuing contributions in this regard; now, therefore, be
    2-9  it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-11  Legislature hereby welcome the West Point Cadet Glee Club on the
   2-12  occasion of its visit to the State Capitol and extend to its
   2-13  members sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in
   2-14  the future; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-16  prepared for the club as an expression of high regard by the Texas
   2-17  House of Representatives.
