                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Plano East Senior High Academic Decathlon Team
    1-2  has distinguished itself by winning first place in the State
    1-3  Championship; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, This dedicated group of students triumphed over a
    1-5  field of 39 other teams from across the state to win the state
    1-6  title and earn a coveted place in the National Academic Decathlon
    1-7  Meet in Phoenix, Arizona; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Competing at the highest level in the Academic
    1-9  Decathlon takes not only the sharpest of young minds but also
   1-10  countless hours of study and preparation in multiple disciplines;
   1-11  and
   1-12        WHEREAS, In addition to winning the overall team title at the
   1-13  state meet, this exemplary group of young students garnered
   1-14  numerous individual awards as six of the team members won nine
   1-15  individual medals in their events, and the team finished second in
   1-16  the Super Quiz team standings; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The outstanding success of the Plano East team was a
   1-18  result of sterling contributions from members Brian Bartles, Sunny
   1-19  Chu, Ranjay Halder, Michael Hardy, James Jones, Todd Konkel, Karl
   1-20  Martinez, Suni Mehta, and Jason Mellard; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Coaches Joyce Gillam and Jack Worsham have labored
   1-22  tirelessly to prepare their charges for the rigors of this
   1-23  demanding competition, encouraging team members in their studies
   1-24  and helping to fire their competitive spirit; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, The Plano East Senior High Academic Decathlon Team
    2-2  members have demonstrated an exemplary command of their
    2-3  considerable knowledge during highly demanding competition, and it
    2-4  is appropriate that these young scholars be given special
    2-5  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-7  Legislature hereby commend the members of the Plano East Senior
    2-8  High Academic Decathlon Team for their outstanding achievement in
    2-9  winning the State Championship and wish them well in the upcoming
   2-10  national competition; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-12  for members of the team and for the coaching staff as an expression
   2-13  of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
