No. 396 73R6392 BNL-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Many proud residents of the City of Grand Prairie 1-2 will travel to the State Capitol on March 24, 1993, to celebrate 1-3 Grand Prairie Day; and 1-4 WHEREAS, This prospering North Texas community was 1-5 established at the end of the Civil War and was incorporated in 1-6 1902; initially a farming community, the town grew slowly but 1-7 steadily for the next 40 years until the United States entered 1-8 World War II, when a growing need for products and supplies brought 1-9 an influx of industry to Grand Prairie; and 1-10 WHEREAS, This economic boost spurred the city on to 1-11 unprecedented growth, and today Grand Prairie is a dynamic and 1-12 thriving metropolis with more than 100,000 proud Texans working to 1-13 make their community and this state an even greater place to live; 1-14 and 1-15 WHEREAS, Located in both Dallas and Tarrant counties, the 1-16 city is in the center of the Dallas Metroplex and enjoys a 1-17 culturally diverse population; home to a multitude of local, 1-18 national, and international businesses, the city is justifiably 1-19 proud of its visionary approaches to areas such as education and 1-20 economic development; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Recreational and tourist opportunities abound 1-22 throughout the city, including the Palace of Wax, Ripley's Believe 1-23 It or Not, and Traders Village; scenic Lake Joe Pool and the area's 1-24 numerous parks provide many venues for enjoying Texas' great 2-1 natural beauty, and the city soon will add a luxurious Class I race 2-2 track to its growing list of attractions; and 2-3 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is honored today 2-4 by the visit of a delegation of Grand Prairie community and 2-5 business leaders; organizations represented in this distinguished 2-6 group include the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce and its various 2-7 committees and staff, the city council, the City of Grand Prairie 2-8 and its various departments, and the public school system; and 2-9 WHEREAS, The interest of these citizens in the operations of 2-10 state government and, in particular, the legislative process merits 2-11 special recognition, as this type of commitment and dedication 2-12 forms the very backbone of the democratic process; and 2-13 WHEREAS, These outstanding individuals, and indeed all the 2-14 residents of Grand Prairie, can take great pride in their 2-15 community's heritage and should look to the future with great 2-16 anticipation; this unique city and its exceptional citizens have 2-17 played a significant role in Texas' development, and their many 2-18 contributions to the Lone Star State surely will continue for many 2-19 years to come; now, therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-21 Legislature hereby recognize March 24, 1993, as Grand Prairie Day 2-22 at the Capitol and join the citizens of Grand Prairie in paying 2-23 tribute to one of Texas' finest cities; and, be it further 2-24 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-25 forwarded to the City of Grand Prairie as a commemoration of this 2-26 grand occasion and as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-27 House of Representatives.
