                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The recent passing of John B. "Jack" Denton on
    1-2  February 20, 1993, at the age of 64, and that of his wife, Loys
    1-3  Marie Gandy Denton, on February 25, 1993, at the age of 61, brought
    1-4  a profound loss to the many friends and family of this beloved
    1-5  couple; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Born September 14, 1928, in Springfield, Missouri,
    1-7  Mr. Denton was graduated from Greenwood High School in Springfield
    1-8  in 1946 and later completed his education at Harvard University in
    1-9  1950; Mrs. Denton was born in San Angelo on October 2, 1931, and
   1-10  attended San Angelo public schools and Hollins College before being
   1-11  graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1952; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, After college, Mr. Denton chose to serve his nation
   1-13  as a member of the United States Air Force and was assigned to a
   1-14  training program at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo; it was
   1-15  there that he met and fell in love with Loys Marie Gandy, then a
   1-16  beautiful and charming college student, and they were married on
   1-17  December 20, 1952; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, For more than 40 years, this loving couple enjoyed a
   1-19  union that was built on a foundation of mutual love, trust, and
   1-20  respect, and these values fostered a warm and caring environment
   1-21  that nurtured their family over the years; their marriage was
   1-22  blessed with two children, William and Carol, and their family
   1-23  later grew to include four grandchildren, who were a source of
   1-24  great pride and joy to their devoted grandparents; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, A respected businessman, Mr. Denton enjoyed a
    2-2  distinguished career that began with his association with Gandy
    2-3  Dairies and continued with his involvement in several retail
    2-4  businesses; he was a member of the board of directors of Tom Green
    2-5  National Bank, and he served his community as a member of the City
    2-6  Commission from 1974 to 1976; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, Although she devoted much of her time to caring for
    2-8  her family, Mrs. Denton still found time to participate in many
    2-9  community activities as well; a past president of the Junior League
   2-10  of San Angelo, she also served as a board member of the San Angelo
   2-11  Symphony and the San Angelo Community Theater; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, Throughout their lives, these esteemed individuals
   2-13  recognized the importance of religious and moral guidance, and both
   2-14  were respected throughout the community for their unfailing
   2-15  compassion, integrity, and honor; Mr. Denton demonstrated his
   2-16  commitment to his faith as a deacon in the First Presbyterian
   2-17  Church, while Mrs. Denton served as a church elder and participated
   2-18  in Community Bible Study; and
   2-19        WHEREAS, In serving their family, their community, and their
   2-20  church, this extraordinary couple gave selflessly to those around
   2-21  them and left their loved ones with a legacy of compassion and love
   2-22  by which to remember them; the loss of two such outstanding people
   2-23  has brought great sadness to those who loved them, but all may take
   2-24  comfort in knowing that Mr. and Mrs. Denton were never separated in
   2-25  life, and they are not separated in death, and their unique spirits
   2-26  will surely live on in the hearts of the many people whose lives
   2-27  they touched; now, therefore, be it
    3-1        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    3-2  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the lives of John B. "Jack"
    3-3  Denton and Loys Marie Gandy Denton and extend deepest sympathy to
    3-4  the members of their family: to their son and daughter-in-law,
    3-5  William P. and Jan Denton; to their daughter and son-in-law, Carol
    3-6  and Robert Vandiver; to their four grandchildren, Elisabeth Denton,
    3-7  Katherine Denton, Will Denton, and Jack Vandiver; to Mr. Denton's
    3-8  uncle, Harry Denton; to his aunts, Patsy Corbett and Ann Criswell;
    3-9  to Mrs. Denton's mother, Mrs. Loy Gandy; to her brother, John T.
   3-10  Gandy; to her sister, Dorothy Chandler; and to all the friends and
   3-11  relatives of these beloved people; and, be it further
   3-12        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   3-13  prepared for the members of their family and that when the Texas
   3-14  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   3-15  John B. "Jack" Denton and Loys Marie Gandy Denton.
