No. 404 73R4174 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The men and women of Texas law enforcement are a 1-2 singular group of public servants who willingly risk their lives 1-3 each day to provide safety and protection for all the citizens of 1-4 the state; and 1-5 WHEREAS, One such inspirational individual, Senior Officer 1-6 Juan Rincon "J. R." Prieto, died while directing traffic on 1-7 February 2, 1993, at the age of 53; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The first Corpus Christi police officer to fall in 1-9 the line of duty in over five years, his tragic death has deeply 1-10 saddened his colleagues, family, and many friends; and 1-11 WHEREAS, After joining the force on January 15, 1965, this 1-12 outstanding community servant served with distinction in both the 1-13 tactical unit and patrol division, earning the respect and 1-14 admiration of his fellow officers; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, he was supported in 1-16 all his endeavors by his beloved wife, Guadalupe, and by his 1-17 children, Felipe, Richardo, Melinda, and Marisela; and 1-18 WHEREAS, This praiseworthy officer was a man of tremendous 1-19 integrity whose strong sense of duty reflected a deep commitment to 1-20 the welfare of others; although his life has been cut tragically 1-21 short, his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were 1-22 privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Senior Officer Juan 2-1 Rincon "J. R." Prieto and extend heartfelt sympathy to his wife, 2-2 Guadalupe Prieto; to his children, Felipe, Richardo, Melinda, and 2-3 Marisela, all of Corpus Christi; and to the many other friends and 2-4 relatives of this exceptional man; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-6 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 2-7 Representatives adjourns this day it do so in memory of Senior 2-8 Officer Juan Rincon Prieto.
