                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The family and friends of Dr. William David (Bill)
    1-2  Pittman were deeply saddened by his death on December 22, 1992, at
    1-3  the age of 63, and the untimely passing of this esteemed gentleman
    1-4  has been a tragic loss to the entire Mexia community; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A native and lifelong resident of Mexia, where he
    1-6  was born on February 9, 1929, Dr. Pittman had been actively
    1-7  involved in almost all aspects of business, civic, and social life
    1-8  in this Limestone County community for many years and had gained
    1-9  widespread respect and admiration as one of the community's most
   1-10  prominent citizens; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Establishing and maintaining a successful practice
   1-12  in Mexia as a doctor of optometry, Dr. Pittman also earned the high
   1-13  regard of his colleagues throughout the state for his outstanding
   1-14  dedication to his profession and his contributions as a member of
   1-15  several professional organizations; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, He was a former president of both the Texas
   1-17  Optometric Association and the Southwest Council of Optometry and
   1-18  in 1987 received well-deserved national recognition from his peers
   1-19  when he was named Optometrist of the Year by the American
   1-20  Optometric Association; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Despite the many demands made by his practice of
   1-22  optometry and his many professional obligations, Dr. Pittman was
   1-23  able to devote considerable time and energy to local civic affairs,
   1-24  serving at various times as a Mexia city commissioner and as mayor;
    2-1  and
    2-2        WHEREAS, He also provided dynamic leadership to the city's
    2-3  business community during his terms as president of the Mexia
    2-4  Rotary Club and of the Mexia Chamber of Commerce and was a leading
    2-5  member of the Mexia Jaycees; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, His many professional accomplishments and his record
    2-7  of public service reflected not only his exceptional ability and
    2-8  energy but his abiding concern for the well-being of others in the
    2-9  community, which emanated from his abiding faith and the deep
   2-10  religious convictions he expressed as a Sunday school teacher and
   2-11  deacon at the First Baptist Church, where he was a longtime member;
   2-12  and
   2-13        WHEREAS, Supported in all of his personal, professional, and
   2-14  public endeavors by his loving wife, Patsy, and their children, Dr.
   2-15  Pittman established a record of achievement that will remain as a
   2-16  lasting legacy to his family, to his many friends and admirers, and
   2-17  to all the citizens of Mexia who have deeply mourned the passing of
   2-18  this outstanding individual; now, therefore, be it
   2-19        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-20  Legislature hereby honor the memory of Dr. William David (Bill)
   2-21  Pittman and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family:
   2-22  to his wife, Patsy Coffman Pittman of Mexia; to his son and
   2-23  daughter-in-law, Wesley E. and Kathy Pittman of Mexia; to his
   2-24  daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Robert Hurst of Nacogdoches; to
   2-25  his sister, Mary Emma Montgomery of Tucson, Arizona; and to his
   2-26  four grandchildren; and to all of the many people who were
   2-27  privileged to know and love this fine individual; and, be it
    3-1  further
    3-2        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-3  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
    3-4  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
    3-5  Dr. William David (Bill) Pittman.
