By Hochberg H.R. No. 410 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Texas, 1-2 annually sponsors the Bluebonnet Girls State Program to provide 1-3 participants the opportunity to experience firsthand the operation 1-4 of our representative form of government; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Each year since 1941, the young women of Girls State 1-6 elect executive and legislative officials and broaden their 1-7 understanding of how public policy is formed by participating in a 1-8 simulated legislative session; and 1-9 WHEREAS, In the process, these young Texans develop and 1-10 practice the skills of organization, management, and persuasive 1-11 speaking that will enable them to become effective civic leaders of 1-12 the coming generation; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The American Legion Auxiliary has requested the use 1-14 of the house chamber to conduct the Girls State House of 1-15 Representatives and administer the oath of office to the program's 1-16 county and state elected officials for 1993; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives heartily endorses 1-18 the goals and ideals of the Girls State legislative session and 1-19 commends the American Legion Auxiliary for sponsoring this valuable 1-20 program; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 73rd 1-22 Legislature, that, in accordance with house rules and with the 1-23 policies and procedures of the House Committee on Administration, 2-1 the Bluebonnet Girls State Program be hereby granted permission to 2-2 use the house chamber from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 20, 1993 2-3 and June 21, 1993; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That if the House of Representatives is in session 2-5 on these dates, special provision be made for the program's 2-6 sponsors and participants to sit in the house gallery and observe 2-7 the day's proceedings; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the members of the Bluebonnet Girls State Program as 2-10 an expression of high esteem by the Texas House of Representatives.
