                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes great
    1-2  pleasure in honoring the members of the Baptist Student Union, a
    1-3  service organization at South Plains College in Levelland, for the
    1-4  many outstanding contributions they have made to their community
    1-5  and state; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Founded in 1966, the Baptist Student Union seeks to
    1-7  provide college students with a spiritual foundation that will
    1-8  support them in every aspect of their lives, as students, family
    1-9  members, civic leaders, missionaries, and professionals; members
   1-10  may participate in a variety of activities each week, including
   1-11  prayer meetings, Bible study classes, singing group rehearsals,
   1-12  leadership training programs, and intramural sports events; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Active in the local community, members of the
   1-14  Baptist Student Union also sponsor children in housing projects and
   1-15  visit seniors in nursing homes; each spring this fine organization
   1-16  sponsors a mission trip to Mexico, providing clothes and medicines,
   1-17  staffing medical clinics, and building clinics and churches; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, In an attempt to strengthen cultural and spiritual
   1-19  ties between Texas and nations around the world, the Baptist
   1-20  Student Union will play host to a group of international students
   1-21  this month; ranging in age from 18 to 25, these students represent
   1-22  the countries of Japan, Egypt, Hungary, Malaysia, Liberia, and the
   1-23  Virgin Islands; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, This exemplary group will sponsor a "Tour of Texas"
    2-1  for these young ambassadors, enabling them to experience the
    2-2  history, heritage, and traditions of this state firsthand; now,
    2-3  therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-5  Legislature hereby commend the members of the Baptist Student Union
    2-6  of Levelland for their many exceptional contributions to their
    2-7  community and state and welcome their international guests to the
    2-8  Texas House of Representatives; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-10  for the members and guests of the Baptist Student Union as an
   2-11  expression of high esteem by the Texas House of Representatives.
