By: Hudson H.R. No. 429 73R6645 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The death of Helen J. Cottrell on January 30, 1993, 1-2 at the age of 83, has brought a great loss to the many friends and 1-3 relatives of this fine woman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The daughter of Joseph and Melvina Smith, 1-5 Mrs. Cottrell was born April 5, 1909, in Mobile, Alabama, and in 1-6 her later life settled in Dallas to be with her family; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A warm and caring person, she will be remembered in 1-8 those communities as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a loyal 1-9 friend and neighbor who tirelessly gave of herself for the 1-10 betterment of others; and 1-11 WHEREAS, In addition to providing a warm and loving home for 1-12 her family, Mrs. Cottrell sought to give care and comfort to the 1-13 poor and neglected children of the world; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The proud mother of two sons, she actively sought to 1-15 instill in her offspring the importance of community values, 1-16 teaching them to "do unto others as you would have them do unto 1-17 you" and imparting the necessity of obtaining a good education; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The qualities that endeared her to so many emanated 1-19 from her deep and abiding religious commitment; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Throughout her long and fruitful life, this 1-21 exceptional woman touched the lives of many people, and though her 1-22 presence will be deeply missed, her memory will endure in the 1-23 hearts of those who came to know and love her; now, therefore, be 1-24 it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Helen J. Cottrell and 2-3 extend sincere sympathy to her many family members and friends; 2-4 and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-6 for the members of her family and that when the Texas House of 2-7 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Helen 2-8 J. Cottrell.
