                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Four outstanding Plano elementary schools recently
    1-2  achieved a nationally recognized level of excellence by being
    1-3  selected as Blue Ribbon Schools for 1991-1992 by the United States
    1-4  Department of Education; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The 11-year-old Blue Ribbon program acknowledges
    1-6  elementary and secondary schools that have made significant
    1-7  progress towards national education goals by preparing students for
    1-8  responsible citizenship, productive employment, and a lifetime of
    1-9  learning; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The Shepard, Wells, Huffman, and Saigling elementary
   1-11  schools in Plano were among the public and private schools recently
   1-12  selected for receipt of this prestigious honor from a host of
   1-13  qualified schools located in 46 states, the District of Columbia,
   1-14  Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Holland; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, The Plano schools were recognized for their success
   1-16  in strengthening curriculum, updating teacher skills, and involving
   1-17  parents and the community in school affairs; in addition, these
   1-18  schools have enjoyed excellent leadership from their administrators
   1-19  and teachers, who have succeeded in creating a superior learning
   1-20  environment for their students; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Competing schools were evaluated by a distinguished
   1-22  panel of experienced principals and teachers who then made
   1-23  recommendations to the United States Secretary of Education; this
   1-24  year the panel also was joined by representatives of the National
    2-1  Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council for
    2-2  History Education, who assisted the selection panels in identifying
    2-3  schools with exceptional programs in these areas; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Through their hard work and unfailing commitment to
    2-5  quality education, many outstanding teachers, administrators, and
    2-6  students have made this remarkable achievement possible and the
    2-7  schools' success has brought great pride to the citizens of Plano;
    2-8  the tireless efforts of these dedicated individuals in behalf of
    2-9  their schools is indeed deserving of special legislative
   2-10  recognition on the occasion of this remarkable accomplishment; now,
   2-11  therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-13  Legislature hereby congratulate the faculty, administrators, and
   2-14  students of Shepard Elementary, Wells Elementary, Huffman
   2-15  Elementary, and Saigling Elementary schools on their selection as
   2-16  1991-1992 Blue Ribbon Schools and commend them for their
   2-17  significant contributions to educational excellence in Texas; and,
   2-18  be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-20  prepared for prominent display at each of these exemplary schools
   2-21  as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
   2-22  Representatives.
