H.R. No. 449 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 the many hardworking members of the Texas Association of Public 1-3 Employee Retirement Systems (TEXPERS); and 1-4 WHEREAS, A voluntary nonprofit educational association, 1-5 TEXPERS works to unite Texas' public pension systems and to provide 1-6 a strong voice for members' concerns and ideas on state and 1-7 national issues affecting the management of public pension funds, 1-8 an essential service in our state, where the combined asset base of 1-9 these 300 public pension systems represents employee savings of 1-10 more than $42 billion; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Composed of many dedicated financial professionals 1-12 and organized employee groups, this vital association enables 1-13 members to exchange important information, serving as a dynamic 1-14 forum for discussion of current trends in public retirement funds 1-15 management; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Through their participation, association members 1-17 become better educated on retirement system administration, benefit 1-18 design, and federal issues and are able to participate more 1-19 effectively in the supervision and investment of public pension 1-20 funds by sharing their knowledge and experience with decision 1-21 makers; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The extensive list of the association's member 1-23 retirement systems in Texas includes those providing benefits for 1-24 police, fire, and municipal employees, as well as employees of 2-1 airport authorities, hospital districts, regional planning 2-2 commissions, river authorities, state agencies, transit 2-3 authorities, and university medical centers; professionals engaged 2-4 in a wide variety of financial services from many nationally 2-5 recognized firms also contribute their valuable expertise to 2-6 TEXPERS as associate members; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Providing sound and informed leadership, TEXPERS's 2-8 member systems and board of directors strive toward a common goal 2-9 of acquiring and maintaining superior management for their pension 2-10 funds and through their tireless efforts are successfully guiding 2-11 plan participants and beneficiaries into a secure and rewarding 2-12 21st Century; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby declare March 23, 1993, as TEXPERS Day at the 2-15 State Capitol and commend the Texas Association of Public Employee 2-16 Retirement Systems for their work in ensuring the wise supervision 2-17 of public pension funds; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for this exemplary association as an expression of high 2-20 regard by the Texas House of Representatives. 2-21 regard by the Texas House of Representatives. 2-22 Bailey 2-23 H.R.
