By: Coleman H.R. No. 464 73R7468 SDU-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Captain David M. Walker, who served his country with the utmost 1-3 distinction as a crew member of the space shuttle Discovery on the 1-4 historic occasion of its 15th orbital flight in December 1992; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Eustis, Florida, and a veteran flyer 1-6 with more than 5,500 hours logged, Captain Walker was designated a 1-7 naval aviator in 1967 and went on to pilot F-4 Phantom jets based 1-8 aboard the aircraft carriers USS Enterprise and USS America; and 1-9 WHEREAS, In 1971, he was graduated from the Air Force 1-10 Aerospace Research Pilot School and was assigned as a test pilot to 1-11 the Naval Air Test Center; and 1-12 WHEREAS, This dedicated and hardworking officer made his 1-13 first space shuttle flight in November 1984; with two more flights 1-14 in May 1989 and December 1992 to his credit, he has logged hundreds 1-15 of hours in space; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Captain Walker served as mission commander aboard 1-17 Discovery when the refurbished and modified craft made its 1-18 momentous flight in December 1992, an event that marked the NASA 1-19 space shuttle fleet's 53rd orbital flight; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Captain Walker symbolizes the United States' 1-21 continuing commitment to world leadership in space, and his 1-22 exemplary record of achievement is indeed a source of inspiration 1-23 and justifiable pride to his fellow Americans; now, therefore, be 1-24 it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby honor Captain David M. Walker for his 2-3 outstanding contributions to manned space flight and extend to him 2-4 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the 2-5 future; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for this illustrious American as an expression of high 2-8 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
