                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  Colonel Guion S. Bluford, Jr., who served his country with the
    1-3  utmost distinction as a crew member of the space shuttle Discovery
    1-4  during its historic 15th mission in December 1992; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Colonel Bluford regards Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
    1-6  as his hometown, where he was a member of the 1960 graduating class
    1-7  of Overbrook Senior High School; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, He received a bachelor's degree in aerospace
    1-9  engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1964 and a
   1-10  master's degree and a doctoral degree in aerospace engineering from
   1-11  the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1974 and 1978, and went on
   1-12  to earn a master's degree in business administration from the
   1-13  University of Houston in Clear Lake in 1987; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Colonel Bluford has logged hundreds of hours in
   1-15  space during the course of his four momentous flights as a space
   1-16  shuttle mission specialist, in September 1983, November 1985, April
   1-17  1991, and December 1992; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, A living symbol of the United States' continuing
   1-19  commitment to world leadership in space, Colonel Bluford has
   1-20  established an exemplary record of achievement as an astronaut that
   1-21  is a source of tremendous inspiration and justifiable pride to his
   1-22  fellow Americans; now, therefore, be it
   1-23        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   1-24  Legislature hereby honor Colonel Guion S. Bluford, Jr., for his
    2-1  outstanding contributions to manned space flight and extend to him
    2-2  sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the
    2-3  future; and, be it further
    2-4        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-5  prepared for this illustrious American as an expression of high
    2-6  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
