By: Coleman H.R. No. 466 73R7467 SDU-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Colonel Robert D. Cabana, who served his country with the utmost 1-3 distinction as the pilot of the space shuttle Discovery during its 1-4 historic 15th mission in December 1992; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A member of the 1967 graduating class of Washburn 1-6 High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this dedicated Marine 1-7 officer received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the U.S. 1-8 Naval Academy in 1971 and completed naval flight officer training 1-9 the following year; and 1-10 WHEREAS, He served as an A-6 Intruder bombardier/navigator 1-11 with the Marine Air Wings at Cherry Point, North Carolina, and 1-12 Iwakuni, Japan, and in 1976 was designated a naval aviator and 1-13 reassigned to Cherry Point; and 1-14 WHEREAS, A 1981 graduate of the Naval Test Pilot School, 1-15 Colonel Cabana was assigned to the Naval Air Test Center; a flyer's 1-16 flyer who has logged more than 4,100 hours in 32 different 1-17 aircraft, he was selected as an astronaut in June 1985 and first 1-18 piloted the space shuttle in orbit in October 1990; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Colonel Cabana is a living symbol of the United 1-20 States' continuing commitment to world leadership in space, and his 1-21 exemplary record of achievement is indeed a source of inspiration 1-22 and justifiable pride to his fellow Americans; now, therefore, be 1-23 it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby honor Colonel Robert D. Cabana for his 2-2 outstanding contributions to manned space flight and extend to him 2-3 sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the 2-4 future; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for this illustrious American as an expression of high 2-7 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
