                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  Lieutenant Colonel James S. Voss, who served his country with the
    1-3  utmost distinction as a crew member of the space shuttle Discovery
    1-4  during its historic 15th mission in December 1992; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, After graduating from high school in Opelika,
    1-6  Alabama, this distinguished individual received a bachelor's degree
    1-7  in aerospace engineering from Auburn University in 1972 and a
    1-8  master's degree in aerospace engineering from the University of
    1-9  Colorado in 1974; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, In 1984, Colonel Voss began working at the Johnson
   1-11  Space Center and supported shuttle and payload testing at the
   1-12  Kennedy Space Center as a vehicle integration test engineer; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Selected as an astronaut in June 1987, this
   1-14  dedicated Army officer made his first shuttle flight in November
   1-15  1991 and served as a Mission Specialist 2 aboard Discovery on the
   1-16  occasion of its momentous December 1992 flight; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A living symbol of the United States' continuing
   1-18  commitment to world leadership in space, Colonel Voss has
   1-19  established an exemplary record of achievement as an astronaut that
   1-20  is a source of tremendous inspiration and justifiable pride to his
   1-21  fellow Americans; now, therefore, be it
   1-22        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   1-23  Legislature hereby honor Colonel James S. Voss for his outstanding
   1-24  contributions to manned space flight and extend to him sincere best
    2-1  wishes for continued success and happiness in the future; and, be
    2-2  it further
    2-3        RESOLVED, Than an official copy of this resolution be
    2-4  prepared for this illustrious American as an expression of high
    2-5  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
