                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
    1-2  the renowned Texas Girls' Choir on its visit to the State Capitol;
    1-3  and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Internationally acclaimed, this extraordinary choir
    1-5  has traveled to more than 40 countries worldwide and has performed
    1-6  at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall and Westminster Abbey;
    1-7  in addition to concert performances, the choir has made numerous
    1-8  television appearances and, at last count, had recorded an
    1-9  impressive 85 albums and tapes; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, At home in Texas, the choir has toured the state
   1-11  annually since its inception in the early 1960s, delighting
   1-12  audiences in our state's largest cities and most peaceful towns
   1-13  with music ranging from classical pieces to ragtime and pop
   1-14  favorites; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Founded in 1962 by Shirley Thompson Carter, the
   1-16  choir's original 16 members quickly gained recognition for their
   1-17  exceptional talent, and the group soon doubled in membership; in
   1-18  1965, the choir incorporated to become the Texas Girls' Choir,  and
   1-19  today the choir's 200 members range in age from 8 to 14 and perform
   1-20  more than 100 concerts each year throughout our state; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Originally housed in Fort Worth's Central Methodist
   1-22  Church after its incorporation, the choir moved in 1973 to its
   1-23  permanent home on Camp Bowie Boulevard, which features among its
   1-24  many attributes a concert hall, recital halls, rehearsal rooms,
    2-1  classrooms, and a fine arts library; members also enjoy the choir's
    2-2  beautiful and relaxing camp facilities at Eagle Mountain Lake; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Dedicated to helping each girl realize her full
    2-4  potential, the choir provides training in leadership and
    2-5  choreography in addition to its multifaceted musical program that
    2-6  includes a music clinic, bell choirs, and solo voice training for
    2-7  interested girls; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, An associate member of the Arts Council of Fort
    2-9  Worth and Tarrant County, the nonprofit choir has raised funds for
   2-10  many worthy causes over the years, while relying solely on funding
   2-11  by generous contributors in the community for its own activities;
   2-12  and
   2-13        WHEREAS, On their scheduled visit to Austin in April, this
   2-14  remarkable group of young women will tour the Capitol grounds and
   2-15  showcase their outstanding voices when they perform in the
   2-16  extension gallery court; and
   2-17        WHEREAS, For more than three decades, the Texas Girls' Choir
   2-18  has enchanted audiences throughout Texas and the world while
   2-19  contributing immeasurably to the self-confidence and personal
   2-20  development of many young Texans; the exemplary dedication and
   2-21  talent of these girls and all of the individuals who contribute to
   2-22  their training has made their community proud, and they are indeed
   2-23  deserving of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-24        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-25  Legislature hereby commend the Texas Girls' Choir for its many
   2-26  achievements and extend a warm welcome to the choir members on
   2-27  their visit to the State Capitol; and, be it further
    3-1        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-2  prepared for the Texas Girls' Choir as an expression of high regard
    3-3  by the Texas House of Representatives.
