H.R. No. 491 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Harry Riley, an esteemed citizen of 1-2 Pasadena, on April 1, 1992, has brought a great loss to the many 1-3 friends and relatives of this fine gentleman; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born in Houston and moved to 1-5 Pasadena in 1926, where he was to live the rest of his life; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Following his graduation from Pasadena High School, 1-7 this patriotic gentleman answered his country's call to arms as a 1-8 member of the United States Navy during World War II and went on to 1-9 pursue his education at Texas Tech University in Lubbock after his 1-10 discharge; and 1-11 WHEREAS, On April 15, 1948, Mr. Riley was united in marriage 1-12 with his devoted wife, Pat, at the First Baptist Church of 1-13 Pasadena, where they remained faithful members of the church 1-14 throughout their 44-year marriage; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Riley took great pride in 1-16 the achievements of his two children, Debra and Danny, and also 1-17 enjoyed the love and affection of five grandchildren, Chris, Staci, 1-18 Michelle, Aaron, and Beaux, and one great-granddaughter, Kirsten 1-19 Anne Mae; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Mr. Riley was a valued employee of Rohm and Haas 1-21 Chemical Company, where he worked for 33 years as a mechanical 1-22 planner until his retirement; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional and personal life, 1-24 Mr. Riley also gave generously of his time as a dedicated civic 2-1 leader; first elected to the Pasadena City Council in 1983, he 2-2 served as mayor pro tempore from 1985 to 1987 and represented the 2-3 constituents of District D for four consecutive terms; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Among the many worthwhile organizations to benefit 2-5 from the services of this fine individual were the Pasadena 2-6 Historical Society, the Pasadena Rodeo Association, American Legion 2-7 Post 521, and the Masonic Lodge, to name but a few; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Named alumnus of the year for 1990 by his alma 2-9 mater, Pasadena High School, Mr. Riley also was so highly thought 2-10 of by the members of his community that he was often referred to as 2-11 "Mr. Pasadena"; and 2-12 WHEREAS, In all aspects of his life, Harry Riley 2-13 demonstrated unfailing wisdom, graciousness, and dedication to that 2-14 which he knew to be right; though his presence is gone from us now, 2-15 the spirit of this remarkable gentleman will surely live on in the 2-16 hearts of the many people whose lives he touched during his years 2-17 on this earth; now, therefore, be it 2-18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-19 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Harry Riley and 2-20 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, 2-21 Pat Riley; to his children, Debra and Danny; to his grandchildren, 2-22 Chris, Staci, Michelle, Aaron, and Beaux; and to his 2-23 great-granddaughter, Kirsten Anne Mae; and, be it further 2-24 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-25 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-26 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-27 Harry Riley. 3-1 Harry Riley. 3-2 Talton 3-3 H.R.
